Has anyone figured out a way to have WUG/WUP backup Cisco router/switch configurations?

CiscoWorks would be a more appropriate product for that....

If money is an issue then you can use a script language like Rexx (ZOC) and use Window Scheduler to backup to an TFTP/FTP server on a daily routine.

I hear you about CW2000.  We own it and it is a royal pain in the keester - not to mention it costs a small fortune for annual maintenance.  I'm the WUG/WUP proponent and was hoping to show my boss (who loves CW2000) that WUG/WUP can do just about everything that CW2000 can do.

I agree with you there....

I think, in time WUP will mature to be a great product.

 I already replaced Cisco NGENIUS with the combination WUP and MRTG for perfomance trends.

Maybe some ASP guru will be able to design such scripts in WUP...hopefully soon.

Regards

a very inexpensive alternative to CW2000 is KiwiTools CATTools. http://www.kiwisyslog.com/cattools2.htm

We use this all the time, and until WhatsUP can handle it, i suppose I still will.

Check our "Cat tools" at www.kiwisyslog.com. It will automate backing up router, switch, and firewall configurations and provide configuration change reports, plus more. It's worth the look. I use it in my network and I am very happy with it.

i third the recommendation of kiwi catools.

that is an awesome and cheap product to do all kind of cisco automation tasks and we use it permanently.

and another recommendation:

dont merge too many management systems into one because you will end up with a ciscoworks or openview like system in the end!

what we use:
mrtg = statistics
wup = monitoring+alerting
kiwisyslog = syslog service
kiwicatools = automation+config change monitoring/config save

EDIT:

btw, we had hp openview, netmetrix and ciscoworks before. we also teste infovista for reporting. all were kicked out because they made more problems than they solved. and the prices are incredibly high compared to the above, even if you calculate the personal cost of doing everything by yourself into that.
