| Hello WUP'ers!
I would like to discuss an issue that came up when I am planning my alert strategies.
I have an Action policy that does the following: UP - Send mail to all admins Up at least 5 min - Send mail to all admins Up at least 5 min - Send _SMS_ to all admins Down - Send mail to all admins Down at least 5 min - Send mail to all admins Down at least 20 min - Send mail to all admins Down at least 20 min - Send _SMS_ to all admin
well, this works just fine, and I am getting mail right away when something fires, and for longer stop's I also get an SMS. Problem is that I am getting an UP-SMS even when a device has been down for example only 6 minutes. So I am recieving some SMS. saying that all is fine with the device for at least 5 minutes... Hope you understand what I would like to do.... I know that WUP simply does what I tell it to do.
I have a feeling that I would like to bind two kind of action policies to a device..
Some planning hints would be appreciated.

| First, are you running SP1? if not, this is a known issue -- upgrade. In SP1 you make the Up condition contengent on the corresponding down condition. i.e. you don't get an up five minutes unless a down five minutes has happened. There appears to be a problem in SP1 when setting device dependencies or setting maintenance. i.e. a device goes to an unkown or maintenance state and then when it comes out of that state, an UP is sent even though it is not supposed to. |

| Hi!
Thanks. I already had SP1 installed, but had completely missed this feature. Sorry, I was blind. ;-)
This does exactly what I needed. Now I love SP1 even more. :-)
