| We can't send any email! Everytime we send we get the error:
RCPT TO generated following response:
503 This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address. Please check your mail client settings or contact your administrator to verify that the domain or address is defined for this server.
Mail is being received fine. |

| Do you have "my out going smtp requires authentication" and "user same credentials as my incoming mail" checked in your mail client? Can you send with Webmail? Is Microsoft's SMTP service stopped on your server?

| I have similar problem in having outgoing email stuck in Spool Manager. In taking a look at the syslog file, I found Stack connect fail and SMTP connection failed errors like this:
06:12 22:08 SMTP-(c320000000010002) Trying telus.net (0)
06:12 22:08 SMTP-(c320000000010002) Stack connect fail "198.161.157.214"
06:12 22:08 SMTP-(c320000000010002) SMTP connection on port 25 failed for host telus.net
06:12 22:08 SMTP-(c320000000010002) SMTP connection failed for host telus.net
It seems that iMail was not picking up the correct MX record from the DNS server. It only took the "A" record IP address which could be different from the IP address of the mail server in the MX record.
However, after I did the following two steps in Queue Manager, the problem seems to have gone:
1. Put in DNS IP address in Domain Name Server field. It was blank before.
2. Checked Enable Failed Domain Skipping. It was not checked before.
I am not sure if the problem was related to both of just one of those entries. I'll do some more tests.
If anyone knows about for sure which is the crucial parameter for SMTP sending, please post your reply to share also.
Thanks. |

| Yes, Imail needs to have DNS servers listed in the Domain Name Server so it can go out and look up MX's. If you see "looking up ... by Stack" in the logs, it is attempting to go to the local TCP/IP stack to look it up, but failing.

| | You just saved my life, after spending 6 hours to fix the problem - imail can't send mail out. This new version of Imail didn't automatically input the DNS servers by default. And, the worst, they move the boxes that askes for DNS into a different location. So, users have to find this box and manaully input the DNS values.
IPSWITCH - Why not keep it in SMTP tab, or put it in both smtp and queue just like you did with log option? oh! BTW, please improve your support time. |
