Steps to create SNMP passive monitors.

Step 1. Disable Windows SNMP trap service.
Windows Key + R -> type services.msc in the open line. Scroll down to SNMP Trap Service or SNMP Trap -> Double click on the service -> Change Startup type to Disabled.

Step 2. Enable SNMP traps in WUG.
From the main menu bar on the WhatsUp Gold Console, select Configure > Program Options. -> In the Program Options dialog, select Passive Monitor Listeners. -> Double click SNMP trap -> Select Listen for messages on port. Click the OK button and click OK again to save the settings and exit the program options dialogs.

Step 3. Import MIBs
Download device specific MIBs from the manufacturer of the device. -> Paste the MIBs into the mibs folder of WhatsUP (usually C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\WhatsUpGold\Data\Mibs folder.) -> Restart WhatsUp.

Step 4. Import trap definitions.
In the WhatsUp Gold console, click Tools > Trap Definition Import Tool. The Trap Definition Import Tool dialog appears.-> Click to select the traps you want to import, then click Import to passive monitor library. The Trap Import Results dialog appears and provides a message about the import results. Traps that already exist in the database are not imported again.

Step 5. Apply trap to device.
Right-click a device, then click Properties. The Device Properties dialog appears.
Click Passive Monitors. The Passive Monitors dialog opens. Click add -> select SNMP passive monitors.

Step 6. Assign action to trap.
Click Add to select an action to add to the passive monitor. This action is executed when one of the Passive Monitor Listeners finds a message that matches the criteria in the passive monitor. Click Edit to change the selected action. Click Remove to remove the selected action from the list.
Step 6.a. Edit email action to make sense for SNMP traps using percent variables.
Example:
Subject:
%PassiveMonitor.DisplayName trap on %Device.HostName (%Device.Type.)
Body:
Trap sent from %Device.HostName (%Device.Address) :
%PassiveMonitor.LoggedText

Payload:
%PassiveMonitor.Payload.*

Adjust the email as you choose

Finish adding monitor and click ok on all windows to save and exit dialogs.
