| For a period of about six weeks, we've had some trouble getting mail delivered to certain hosts. Among them is Network Solutions. It's a small percentage overall, but a significant issue nonetheless. It seems as though the connection gets dropped right at the end.
Here's a sample of what the logs look like when the problem occurs:

One of the support technicians at Ipswitch suspected a possible NIC issue and recommended a NIC replacement. We did so.
Another support technician suggested installing WireShark and analyzing packets being sent. That's over my head (trying to find if we are sending the requested period on a line by itself) and I'm afraid of the overhead.
Besides, why would it be just those final packets failing to just certain hosts? To those hosts it fails 100% of the time.
I've tried asking other hosts what they are seeing from their end but am not finding any of the other hosts, so far, that want to engage in troubleshooting.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

| I'm sure this is not helping you but I have just seen the first case of this on our V11 server.
In our case:
- It only happens with a certain domain
- It only happens if the mail has an attachment
Is this similar to your experience?

Unfortunately, in our case it happens with a number of domains and regardless of message size or the presence of an attachment.

| From packet captures, Imail is trying to resend the same packet but then the other server says it timed out ... looks like a routing issue.

| | Just an update: Imail staff has certainly spent considerable time on this issue but we we still experience it. We now know that the problem only occurs when the pop client is MS Outlook AND the message is composed using the Word editor (plain text messages go through fine). Still trying to determine where in the combination of MS Outlook using Word + our Imail server (now version 11 but it happened with 10, too) + our network + certain receiving servers the hang up occurs and what might have happened 2.5 months ago (we made not changes) to make this start happening... ~Katie |

| | Stefan - is your case with SENDING of emails from Imail or RECEIVING of emails to IMail. I have now determined that very basic messages (generated via CDO by a web form) will crash Imail's receipt right after Imail acknowledges the DATA command to the sending server. I have confirmed that the message can be delivered to other servers just fine (by rerouting it in the sender's queue). Imail log: Exception in _OnRecvCommand: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host StackTrace: at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.EndReceive(IAsyncResult asyncResult) at IMailServer.Session.BaseSession._OnRecvCommand(IAsyncResult ar) Sample file attached. Changing the body of the message will make the message go through. But changing the from/to or the sending server will not have any effect (I also tried inserting CR/LF to break up the long line - without any effect). I just now opened a case with support.
Best Regards, Andy Schmidt
