| Server: Windows 2003
Imail version: 10.02
Workgroup Share server: 2.3.0.455
Clients: XP and Vista
Workgroup Share clients: 2.2.0.? and 2.3.0.456
One of the little issues my company is having with Workgroup Share appears to be hitting a minor glitch during the synchronize. We have 1 shared contact list and 3 shared calendars. When it begins to synchronize, we can pull up the progress and look at what it is synchronizing and we notice something odd. Sometimes it will sync the contacts list twice, other times it will have one (or two) of the calendars in the list twice. In other words, here is what we should see when we do a sync:
Connect to the Workgroup Share server
Get folder information
Synchronize folder Calendar #1
Synchronize folder Calendar #2
Synchronize folder Calendar #3
Synchronize folder Contacts
Synchronize folder Tidy deleted items folder
but something like this is what we normally see:
Connect to the Workgroup Share server
Get folder information
Synchronize folder Calendar #1
Synchronize folder Calendar #2
Synchronize folder Calendar #3
Synchronize folder Contacts
Synchronize folder Calendar #2
Synchronize folder Calendar #3
Synchronize folder Contacts
Synchronize folder Tidy deleted items folder
Instead of only having to sync 4 items, it goes up to 5-7 usually which almost doubles how long it takes to finish the sync. I know that is not the most pressing of issues, but it has gotten pretty annoying lately.
Another issue that we are running into is that when Outlook is launched sometimes (usually only happens on the first launch after booting, but sometimes more often) Outlook will only open partway and then lock up before it populates all the inbox folders and never loads any messages. We have to force it to close (usually by task manager) and then when we open it again it will pop up an error message saying that "Outlook has experienced a severe problem with the Workgroup Share add-in. If you have seen this error multiple times you should disable the add-in" and gives the option to disable it or continue. If you continue it will finish loading Outlook normally.
When the users see this every time they turn their computer on and get into Outlook, a lot of them go ahead and disable it and then wonder why they can't see the calendars until we enable it again.
Has anyone else run into these issues and found a fix for them? I have looked in this forum and the one on Softalk's website and neither one have solutions.

| 3 days and 90 views later and no replies. I guess no one else is having these issues.

| Well, I guess I will just give up on this thread. After more than 200 views, it appears that either no one else is having these issues or no one uses Workgroup Share.

| | ::One:: I have seen this problem as well. Usually after a few successful syncs the problem goes away. If it doesn't you can fix it by one of two ways. Either 1. Re-install (uninstall the existing version first) the WGS client software (the latest verison is 2.3.0.456), OR 2. Remove the user's permissions to the shared object and then sync, and then re-add them to the shared item. Change WGS from Access DB to SQL DB can help fix this issue in the long run as well. It you can't change to SQL - make sure you compact the Access DB often on the server. ::Two:: Man did I use to see this A LOT. I finally narrowed it down on my end to Google Desktop. Once I uninstalled that, Outlook was flying again. Hoep this helps.

| Thanks for the reply Travis, I was starting to feel a little alone out here.
1.
I run the repair / compact on the Access database about every other week. I will have to check with my boss on the possibility to change it over to SQL and will try that soon.
As for reinstalling the WGS client (after uninstalling) I have already done that. I even let it remove the user's settings from the server. No change at all.
I have not tried removing the permissions to the object, synching, then adding them back and synching again. I will have to try that and let you know if it works.
2.
Google Desktop is not installed, so I guess I will just have to go through and check programs one-by-one. It seems like the strangest thing because Outlook will open fine the second time and almost every time after that, but the first time you try to open it after booting ALWAYS fails. Not the end of the world, but a lot of users get irritated.
I guess I will keep looking. Thanks for the tips.

| | OK... The permissions will work, I gurantee it. Ihad the same problem and evenutally got it taken care of using one of those. Yup - on the Outlook Add-Ins. Mine was Google Desktop, but possibly you have something else as well. I did disable the SEP 11.0 Outlook Add-In as most of my users are fairly savvy enough not to need it. Travis
