| | Hi All... I have configured a NT service active monitor for one server in WUG to ensure that the service is always started. But the service is getting hunged repeated number of times on the same server but not getting any alert from WUG. How can we get notified from WUG when the NT service gets hung? Please advice. I am querying the service through WMI. Will monitoring the NT service through SNMP will help on this? Please advice.
Thanks & Regards,

| | When the service "hangs" does its state change? Have you looked at the "Services" applet in the "Administrative Tools" to see what state is displayed for the hung service? It will not matter what method you use to monitor the serivce if its state does not change when it "hangs". |

| | It sounds like you need a monitor that does more than just check the state of the Windows service. Is the service something that can be connected to (on a port) and that sends a response when that connection is made? If it is then a TCPIP monitor could be constructed to make the connection and check for the response. You could even construct a Service Restart action as a Recurring Action, to stop the service on a regular basis and if your existing service monitor has 'restart' enabled, WUG will restart it after it is stopped. | | Unfortunately if the service does not change state, there isn't much that can be done. As Dan suggested, if the service responds to TCP/IP requests on some port then you can use that to create a monitor but other that tha there isn't much that can be done. |
