I have a dialup modem and an ADSL connection which is always on.

Using WS-FTP-Home, I can connect to my website upload server using the dialup connection but all attempts to connect using ADSL results in

Finding Host uploads.webspace.freeserve.net ...

Connecting to 195.92.195.164:21

Connected to 195.92.195.164:21 in 0.203125 seconds, Waiting for Server Response

Failed to receive response after connect

Host type (1): Automatic Detect

Why should there be any difference between the two types of connection?

There should not be any difference normaly. Assuming you have the ftp client confirgured correctly and are not in PASV mode, this sound more like a server side issue. Have you contacted
your ISP about this?
