Hi,

If the WSP received a trap message from the object, the WSP will change the object color on the MAP?

Thanks,

Hi ,

I have setup passive monitor for some hosts to playback a wav file when snmp trap message received.

When WSP received the trap and playing back the wav file,  I have problem to find out which network host getting problem.

The WSG version 8 manual mentioned, there is a triangle on the network object, when snmp trap message received from that host.

On the WSP map, I can’t see any changes on color/ logo.

For this case, could you tell me how to find out the problem object from the map quickly?

I was working with the WhatsUP Professional for a day.  But the WhatsUP Professional never changes anything on the MAP when it received SNMP trap from the managed host.

I have to check the System SNMP-Trap report to find where the Trap messages come from.

Is it causes by mis-configuration or a well known problem?

OK.

I have removed the WhatsUP Professional and re-install the WhatsUP Gold 8.0.

The object color changes immediately when snmp trap received.

I should keep using WhatsUP Gold instead of Professional versoin ?

WUP will not display a triangle or change anything on the device icon when it receives a trap -which used to be the case in WUG.

I guess this is a matter of personal taste. Most customers for which I have implemented a network monitoring system barely look at the console. They just expect to receive an alert when something needs to be done. So for me, it's no big deal that you don't get this purple triangle anymore. But I can imagine that some people DO look at the maps...

Hi Sergio,

Thanks for your information. Without the visual alert, If you received a trap message, how you know where the trap come from?

Traps you receive are always linked to a device. So you can define alerts that trigger when a specific trap is received on a device.

Basics steps are :

1/ Compile the mibs so you get the traps definitions in WUP.

2/ set up a passive monitor with the relevant info (you can even use regular expressions to "match" the trap to a certain text pattern).

3/ Assign the passive monitor to a device.

4/ Assign an action policy to the device or the passive monitor on the device, that will trigger a notification.
