Hello everyone! I feel like an idiot to be asking this, but could someone walk me through the whole process of setting up SNMP traps on both Whats Up Gold and on the server that I am monitoring. Here's the deal I have never had any issues with this before, but not with WHATS Up. I have the the Listener on which I believe I have done that right, seeing that there isn't much that I can see that needs to be done on that end.

On one of the servers that I would traps set on, I have done everything that I have done before. So without having to go back and forth about what I have done, would someone be kinda enough to walk through all the steps on both ends?

For an example I would like to monitor a Service say the Print Spooler or something. I have nothing configured where would I start and how would I go about setting this whole thing up?

I have not been able to get on Trap logged. I have been using a two different Trap Generators to at least pretend that I trap has been set and I don't see anything in the SMTP Trap logs on Whats Up. This is really beginning to drive me nuts.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the Trap receiver enabled? Go to Configure/Program Options/Passive Monitor Listeners. Then click on Configure for the SNMP trap and make sure the Listen for messages on port line is checked (the default port should be 162).

You may also need to enable Accept Unsolicited Traps, at least until you've confirmed that you are receiving SNMP Traps.

David

btw - SMTP = Simple Mail Transfer Protocol

SNMP = Simple Network Management Protocol  (the one we're talking about in this case)

Yes SNMP sorry slip of the finger when I typed SMTP. As for the listener and the port, yes it is all configured correctly. I will get some screen shoots of what I have on both the Server (one of the one's that I want to monitor) and WUG, and maybe someone will be able to see if I have anything incorrect?

Be sure it is WhatsUp that has the UDP port 162 and not another program/service
I once got the problem when i installed a snmp trap receiver.
