I am using SNMP informant to monitor diskspace..memory and CPU utilization on win2000 servers. It works fine until a server reboots itself ...diskperf gets reset...It is not an option for me to reset diskperf and restart a production server every time it gets reset. Does anyone know of another way to monitor these things without using diskperf?? Or a way to keep diskperf from resetting??

Hi Mary,

Go at your server and type in a dos prompt : diskperf /?

Using diskperf /Y will set it to start automatically. There are a few other options you might want to try.

Do it once, then forget it !

PS : When your OS is > Windows 2000 diskperf always starts automatically.

These are the options....

DISKPERF [-Y[D|V] | -N[D|V]] [\\computername]

-Y  Sets the system to start all disk performance counters
      when the system is restarted.

-YD Enables the disk performance counters for physical drives.
      when the system is restarted.
-YV Enables the disk performance counters for logical drives
or storage volumes when the system is restarted.
-N  Sets the system to disable all disk performance counters
      when the system is restarted.

-ND Disables the disk performance counters for physical drives.
-NV Disables the disk performance counters for logical drives.
\\computername        Is the name of the computer you want to
see or set disk performance counter use.

I used diskperf -Y on the servers...And it gets reset when it reboots. Is there a registry key to edit that will keep it on?

P.S. this is the message I get when I try to pull info from a server after it reboots.

return code=10054 (Connection Reset)

It is my experience that diskperf -Y works, ie setting remains after a reboot... There is probably a special issue with your servers ?

You can verify is diskperf is running by rebooting your server then just typing "diskperf". It will tell you whether diskperf is started or not. Maybe diskperf is indeed started but another problem causes the error message you get ?
