Richie,

Unfortunately MSDE has a maximum database size of 2Gb, SQLServer 2005 Express has a Limit of 4Gb but thats the maximum for the free versions. After that your looking at moving up to 2005 Workgroup Edition or Standard depending on your budget.

Hi all,
I am facing a similar situation.
I currently use MSDE with WUG 11 and I am reaching the limit of this DB.
I would like to swith to a MSSQL that I purchased.

1. Is this possible? if so is there any procedure described somewhere?
2. As I am planning to upgrade to WUG 12, should this be done during/prior/after upgrade?

thank you

Hi,

1. Yes it is possible, I use WUG v11 with MS SQL server on another machine. It works well, I've been using it like this for a while now - we migrated the database whilst on WU Pro 2006. There is some instructions in the v11 user guide. Download the WhatsUp Gold User Guide, under the WhatsUp Gold Premium and Standard v11.0.3 section here. Have a look at page 19 onwards.

2. I personally would probably migrate to the new database first and make sure everything was still working correctly etc. and leave it a while before upgrading to v12, maybe up to a month. Otherwise, I think if you do have problems it will be difficult to trace it - you won't be able to tell if it's related to the migration or the upgrade.

Cheers,
Steve

Just a reminder to purge expired rows, defragment tables, then compact it. Usually frees up a bit of space if you havent done that already.
