| | We are considering purchasing a Barracuda Spam Firewall to help reduce the amount of spam we receive. Most posts and documentation that I read about this make it sound very easy to implement. Can someone that has experience with a Barracuda and Imail let me know if my plan is somewhat correct and if the installation is as easy as everyone says? 1. Update DNS for domain.com to include 2 MX records mail.domain.com(imail), and mail2.domain.com(Barracuda). Is this possible/or a good idea, receive using the barracuda and send using the imail server? 2. Configure the Barracuda to forward email to the Imail server
3. Enable SMTP AUTH only connections on Imail server on alternate port 587 for external users
4. Disable incoming connections on ‘mail.domain.com 25’ (Imail server) in the firewall
5. Enable incoming connections on ‘mail2.domain.com 25’ (Barracuda) in the firewall
Does anyone see any potential problems/issues with this setup? Since all external users will be connecting via port 587, there is no reason to leave incoming port 25 connections for mail.domain.com (imail) open on the firewall right? Is there anything you can recommend I watch out for or change in the Imail configuration when installing the Barracuda?

| | I think you will want to remove the MX record for your iMail server as all mail coming from the outside will go thru the Barracuda, so you don't want MX lookups to resolve to your iMail server. If you are using any aliases (domain alias or individual user aliases) you will not be able to enable the LDAP on the Barracuda to verify valid user accounts. Unfortunately the LDAP implementation on iMail does not support alternate addresses. |

| | Hi,I read an article about an new technology called ReceiverNet from Abaca. ReceiverNet technology characterizes each protected user based on the percentage of spam they receive and then uses those reputations to rate the incoming message flow. I changed my spam filtering system to Abaca’s Email Protection Gateway and it blocked Replica watches spam mails, Subpoena Phishing mails and many more.
