I configured a Split Second Graph to monitor Interface Utilization on our Internet Router. SNMP RO credentials are specified in Device Properties and on the Cisco router itself.

However, when I set up the graph in the Home Workspace view,  an error is displayed: Interface \INTERFACE_NAME\' not found.

The SSG for that particular interface shows up fine when viewed within Device Reports: Interface Utilization.  It just doesn't seem to work when configured from the Home Workspace.

Thanks in advance!

StarBush,

-  Are you using SNMPv1, v2, or v3?

-  Are you seeing the error during the process of configuring the "Split Second Graph Interface" content to use a specific device and interface name?

-  Is the error being display inside of the "Split Second Graph - Interface" content area in your home workspace view, after you have configure it to use a spedific device and interface?

-  What Window operating system is What'sUp Gold installed on? What browser are you using?

-  Can you try the following:

      >In the WUG Web administration page click GO > Tools > Web Task Manger

      >You will be ask to provide a "Address or Hostname", use the browse button to choose the same device that you're using above.  Choose the proper SNMP credentials.  Click "OK".  If you are not ask to choose a "Address or Hostname", this means that you are now at the WUG "Web Task Manager".  Make sure you set the proper device in the "Address or Hostname" field located at the upper left corner of the page.

      >You should now be in the WUG Web Task Manager page.  At the bottom of the page click on the "Interfaces" tab.  You will see an SSG-Interface graph at the bottom of the page.  Does the graph show data?

Thanks for your reply!

<<Are you using SNMPv1, v2, or v3?>>  I assume that I am using SNMP v1. It is configured on a Cisco 2821 router, and I did not specify to use v2 or v3. "snmp-server community MyString RW"

<<Are you seeing the error during the process of configuring the "Split Second Graph Interface" content to use a specific device and interface name?>>  Yes, I am using a specific device and interface name.  Not sure if it is relevant, but the selection screen lists the interface descriptions (Internet Link) rather than the interface names (GigabitEthernet0/1). This error occurs with all devices/interfaces.

<<Is the error being display inside of the "Split Second Graph - Interface" content area in your home workspace view, after you have configure it to use a spedific device and interface?>>  Correct, the error appears in the Workspace view for a specific interface on a specific device.  The SSG works fine when looking at the Device Reports/Interface Utilization Reports.  Pop-up graphs display correctly as well.

One strange thing I noticed: the SSG reports that work have a different header than the one that does not work on the Home Workspace.  The reports that display correctly use a header like "ifOutOctets: Internet Link (2)" and the Home Workspace SSG uses a header "Interface \'Internet Link\' not found."

<<What Window operating system is What'sUp Gold installed on? What browser are you using?>>  The operating system is Windows Server 2003 Standard, w/SP2.  The server is running on VMware 2.5.x.

<<Can you try the following...Does the graph show data?>> Yes, it sure does!

Thanks again!

StarBush,

According to my test results, you will see the error message >>>Interface \INTERFACE_NAME\' not found.<<< if the interface is in a down state.  I'm guessing in your case your interface name is "Internet Link".  In your "Home Workspace" view when you configure your SSG Graph interface content by selecting the interface "Internet Link" did the "Select Interface" window show it as being in the "down" state?

For example:

-In you Home Workspace view, go to the "Split Second Graph-Interface" content and click the "menu" link then choose "Configure"

-You'll be taken to the "Configure Line Chart" page.  Choose the proper device in the "Device" field.  Then click the browse button in the "Interface Name" field.

-You will now be in the "Select Interface" page which list all your interfaces on the device you set earlier.  Look for your interface name, in this case "Internet Link", once you have located it look under the "OperStatus" column, does it have a status of Up or Down?

Can you confirm that when you're in the Device Reports: Interface Utilization, it is set up to display data for the Interface "Internet Link" or the same interface as you have setup in the SSG Interface content.  There should be a dropdown menu name "Select Interface:" at the upper left corner of the Device Reports: Interface Utilization.  Do you see the interface name "Internet Link" listed in the drop down list?

StarBush,

One of our team members recently encounter a smiliar issue.  More testing revealed that in the case of "SSG Interface" content view, interfaces with spaces or certain special characters such as ".", "\", "/" , etc.. in their name will cause the issue.  In your case, the interface name was "Internet Link" which had a space in its name.  I have informed development of this issue.  Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.
