I have also been routed to a ski resort, from behind a proxy(red hat) and firewall.  Is there another way to activate?

Hi Rick,

See if you can allow anonymous access through your proxy and make a connection to the activation site. We have recently updated the activation process for WUG v12, however this may be required for installation of the TPP version. If this fails, or if you are not able to allow anonymous access, go ahead and send me an email using the button below and I can provide an alternate solution.

Thanks.

Jason Benton (2/21/2008)

1) Was the machine you were activating from behind a firewall, proxy server, content filter, or similar device?
If so, what type?

No devices of this type, just a plain NAT.

Jason Benton (2/21/2008)

2) Were you able to successfully complete activation?
If not, what problem(s) did you have? Can you provide info on your environment and configuration?

I *THINK* activation was successful, did not receive any error, but when I launch the console, it always asks me to activate ("WhatsUp Gold has 56 of 64 days remaining on your license. License Type: Evaluation .... Edition: Premium ..... Activate  /  Continue Evalation"

Jason Benton (2/21/2008)

3) Do you have any additional comments on the Licensing and Activation process?

If the request above is being shown due to an evaluation license, the whole process is pretty straightforward, so no need to change it. I would like to test also the offline method. Is there a way to "reset" the activation in order to run more tests?

Hi,

Yes, it sounds like you have a properly activated evaluation install. Whenever the license status page comes up, choose "continue evaluation". Offline activation is not ready to be tested. If you have other tests you would like to perform, licensing can be "reset" by either renaming or deleting license.txt from the WhatsUp directory.

Hope this helps

-Steve

My activation results...

Behind a SMC Barricade Broadband router/firewall. The test machine was NATed out to the Internet.

The activation was successful with no issues.

I have never had any issues with the activation process up to this point. Looks good.

Update:

I originally installed WUG v12 on a clean machine. This time I built a duplicate of my current v11 installation (in a virtual machine) and tried the upgrade path.

During the upgrade process WUG v12 tried to activate but failed with the following message:
"The seat $$SEAT$$ for this WhatsUp Gold v12 is already licensed"

It then brought up a dialog to logon to myipswitch.com (which wasn't accessible - site is under construction).

I ended up canceling the activation process - the install then seemed to finished normally.
After my system rebooted - I can not access WhatsUp. It says I have an invalid license key.

At this point I'm dead in the water with this evaluation.
Can someone assist?

The TPP license you recieved is only for use on one single system at a time. That is why you were unable to activate it on another system. Please send me an email using the "email" button and I can issue you another TPP license. Please indicate the emaill and contact information you used when you downloaded the TPP build.

Yes, Bluecoat Proxy.  Requires authenication from each IP address every 30 days.  Already authenticated from this machine so no credentials would be needed from other connections.

2) Were you able to successfully complete activation? No
If not, what problem(s) did you have? Can you provide info on your environment and configuration? Windows 2003 Server.  Get a screen saying "switching to offline..." and then invites me to go skiing.

3) Do you have any additional comments on the Licensing and Activation process?
You should probably add a button to the Activation screen to prompt for Proxy info. Trying to inherit that automatically from IE or ProxyCFG tends to be problematical for most vendors.

The server is behind a two-tier firewall (Cisco ASA & Checkpoint) and a Bluecoat proxy with activated content filter.

2) Were you able to successfully complete activation?

The online activation does not work. I receive the following meaningless Error: "Error from Server". The offline activation shows me the page from a ski resort.

3) Do you have any additional comments on the Licensing and Activation process?

Maybe it is possible to implement a connection test button for the online Activation process.

Hi,

just the same problems on my site:

the server runs behind a checkpoint firewall and a bluecoat proxy with enabled authentification, nothing happens during the activation process. The offline activation link points to a ski ressort - hopefully I am the lucky customer how won a 2 week holiday there, am I?

Otherwise please tell me how I can acitvate this preview version...

THX

Christian
