| I am having a hard time activating Preview 1. I got the email from Ipswitch with my serial number. I ran the installation and upgrade scripts. When I fire up the WhatsUp Gold v12 console it prompts me to activiate, even though I didn't rename the installation file. When I go to enter the serial # it takes me to the offline activation area. When I click on the link to submit my activation request it takes me to a ski resort's website.
Help! |

| | I figured it out. The activation process didn't like our proxy server or firewall rules, not sure which. I put the PC on a unrestricted Internet connection and it activated without issue. |

| | After installing the software an activation screen is presented saying the key is invalid. I used to key supplied in the preview email and did NOT rename the installation file. When I try to activate the software after installation I receive a "server error". What are some of the causes of this problem? What port and protocol does the software use to send the serial number back to the "server"? We are using a content filter that inspects and proxies tcp port 80 traffic. Additionally, what IP address does the software try to connect to during the activation process? |

| | The version of the licensing software shipping with Preview 1 does not yet support "offline activation". As such, (assuming the filename hasn't been changed) an activation request is silently sent via HTTP to license.ipswitch.com once installation completes. If this fails, activation fails and the "Invalid License" dialogue is seen. Any subsequent attempts to activate use the same approach. We recently made a code change to the licensing application to begin submitting a User-Agent header in the HTTP request. The lack of this could be causing your proxy server to deny the outbound HTTP request. If temporarily adding the WhatsUp computer as a "trusted" system (as eagleONE did) isn't possible, you can send me the "license.ofa" file from your WhatsUp installation directory and I can send you a license file. Ultimately, sending an activation request and downloading a license file is done during online activation, but offline activation will be available for those who don't have an internet connection or who are unable to complete this process. I'll reply to the email you sent me. Please attach your license.ofa file to it and we'll get you a working license file.
Have a good one, Christian Lawson QA Engineer - Network Monitoring Ipswitch, Inc. |

| | The activation program attempts to connect to license.ipswitch.com which has the IP [156.21.1.12]. The requests sent are http requests without UserAgents. Hopefully that helps. Please reply back if it does not so that we can make alternate arrangements to get you a license. Thanks. |

| | Thanks very much for the replies. I made a change to our proxy configuration to permit this traffic to get through and how have the application up and running. |

| | EagleOne / Ameritt We have a new version of the WUG activation application and would like to see if it works in your restricted (proxy / firewall) environments. Would you be willing to test it? Please let us know. Thanks -Ambar |
