Hi guys

Pardon a complete beginner, but i knocked together a little website some time ago to publicise the plays what I wrote.  I used WS_FTP to load the files and make changes.  Then, at the end of 2004 I found WS_FTP wouldn't connect.  It kept saying that there was a 530 Login Error.  I've tried my helpful ISP (Tiscali) but after some time the best they can offer is that my winsock file is corrupt and needs to be replaced.  As far as I can see that involves a complete reload of the system.  Is there no easier way ?

I beleive that the 530 error code is a password issue that your user name was rejected (or you're not logged in). This code is being sent back from the server.  This does not mean that the winsock is not corrupted (throwing off garbage). But I think your connecting in.

I would test your user name and password from another computer, see if you can connect. If that works, test another ftp site access (not your web page site) from your computer. This should help you determine where the problem may lie.

Advise what your operating system is.  You don't need to reload the O/S to fix winsock. I would not replace the winsock proxy client without being certain that was the problem.
