Hi all,
anyone knows why WS_FTP possibly looses the Log View?
I get dictionary (I guess) attack on a daily bases since I opened the port for the SSH.
Thats ok, they trying to control a machine... they think its a linux/unix machine.

The ISSUE is that suddenly, I am unable to see any log anymore.
The logs are there. I can open them with notepad.
But I cannot figure out what caused the Log view to never return any results no matter what day and time I choose!
I restarted the services, the machine... nothing!

Anyone had that experience and/or have a possible help/solution for me?
Possibly NOT reinstalling the server!!! That would be the ultimate solution!! :-)
I believe is a quite good and stable FTP server... But I need my logs!

Thanks,

Camaleonte

The situation is even more strange...

when you pick a date from the calendar in Log Viewer, choose a range of date: 1st november 2007 till 30 november 2007.
November 1 to 6 is in the range.
Funny enough, the viewer shows logs!
If you choose specific date, nothing shows up!
So I came back to the larger range... and everything was back again LOOK like normal!!
On a closer look, you figure out that the title of the view shows the right date range BUT the logs are from August!

I got the feeling that there is an issue in the time format!
But even that makes no sense!!
How did it pick up August month???
Is that random choice?

Look at the image:

You got any closer to a fix on this? I have a couple of these servers on trial, and have the same issues.

Mine worked until I changed my listeners from 127.0.0.1 to the interface IP's (as I need two FTP listeners on the same server), so unsure if thats connected. Again the logs are in the directory but when I use the log viewer I get a bunch of logs, but only if I select today to some time next year, even then I get all logs or no logs. Something a little stinky here, I was considering just using the syslog option as a work around until a fix comes around.

Are there plug in replacements for the standard, 6.0 logging server?

  1. I don't like logging in XML.
  2. I'd prefer to log to a database table.
  3. I don't like the functionality of the built-in log viewer.

Ideally, I would have a logging server on the same port that writes data back to the PostgreSQL database that's already installed or one of our MSSQL boxes.

Hi,
no, not any closer...
but now that you said you got the same issue when changed the listener.... I think that this started as well at about the same time when I start using the SSH myself. I did not open that port before and no one was using SSH.
Maybe it has to do with the use of more listeners???
Interesting!!
But I got no news from anyone so far!

I am sure Ipswitch with look at this Forum sooner or later.

Lets hope!

Bye

... But I found a workaround!
If you do NOT choose a date from the 'date picking up' but simply change the date on the text field, it works!
Its extremely odd... but it works that way!
I am sure it got to do with date format!
(US vs International)
I cannot see any other reason!

I hope this helps you!

Hello Camaleonte,

Thanks for your post and feedback/discovery.  I've captured this and given to our Product Management Team for the team to look at for the next release.

Sorry for digging out old thread...

I have exactly same problem. WS FTP server with SSH (v6.1) and logs stopped showing. I checked and server makes logs, but log viewer cannot show them. All it shows is empty results with text that nothing matched with filter.
