Hello, I just upgraded to Version 5.0.1 because of the UNC support.  UNC's are network shares of the form \\servername\sharename

However, I can't get a user account configured to point to a UNC as its home directory!

When changing a user's home directory, I am presented with a directory tree where I am forced to choose an existing directory that is beneath the host's top directory.  Yet I cannot change the host's top directory to be a UNC (I get a message stating that "only local fixed drives can be used for Host's Top Directory!").

I looked through the documentation and knowledge base for information on how to take advantage of V 5.0's UNC support but came up empty -- can someone please tell me how to configure my users' home directories to be on a network share (UNC)?

Thanks,

Gregory Hassett

Use virtual folders to set a user's home folder to a UNC path. Create a virtual folder pointing to the UNC path, and give only the user full permissions. When you set the user's home folder, the "browse" dialog will display the virtual folder for selection.

Hi Brandon -- I have approximately 700 users, who all have automatically-generated home directories under the 'users' directory beneath the host's top directory. New users are being added every day (I use an external database to maintain the list of users and passwords, and point the server at that database). Creating a virtual folder for each of them, and managing which folders they can view, on an individual basis, is not an option.

I simply want to put the 'users' folder on a network share, specified via a UNC.

Or, find another way to use the server with an external user database, with automatically created user directories stored on a network resource. I understand that V5.0 supports UNC's, but I have not figured out how to simply say "put the users directory on a UNC."

Thanks for your help!
