As a professional who has been using WS_FTP for many many years, I am very disappointed in the counterproductive way they have chosen to handle this.

Other companies have managed to somehow be or become vista compatible in a jiffy but ipSwitch claims it was unforeseeable for them to be ready in time. As a developer, I know that's a load.

What further insults me and others is that I HAVE contacted support several times and gotten nothing. I have now sent 6 requests to them and been ignored. My company is currently in talks with CuteFTP (which manages to be compatible with Vista) to replace WS_FTP.

This is very disappointing, since we have such a long history with it and I really don't want to have to come up with new usage manuals. This is how major companies screw up and lose market share.

Its sad and very poor show of effort.

well I spent the whole 3 minutes registering to this forum just so that I could post that I am now using a competing FTP client thanks to the fact that WS FTP PRO DOES NOT WORK WITH VISTA!!!

That was my point exactly and I can't believe that a company would care so little about the customer and professional loyalty. They have sacrificed it for no apparent reason. A company should be making all effort to reach its user base with the best service, especially if they are going to be so busy to reply, they should allow us to serve ourselves at the very least.

Guardian,

Completely understand your perspective.

A full, Vista compatible version of WS_FTP Pro 2007 is available (and has been since last year) and we have to do a better job at communicating this.  I'll be working with a few folks to make this message MUCH more prevalent in the days ahead.

Sorry for the confusion and let me know if you are not taken care of to your satisfaction.

Well if they have it, they should make it available.
You can make the post you gave known until we are ALL blue in the face.

The fact is, that I have contacted them 6 times with no reply. If they are so busy they can't reply to us, then make the damn software available.

This is bad business and poor handling, regardless of how they try to dress it up or shine it off. So unless you can post a link for us to get the available version without getting jerked around, then it does nothing to help anyone to see more postings about how to contact them so they can get ignored.

I was also blown away by the fact that Ipswitch wasn't ready for Vista. Like many of the people here, as a developer I have to stay current with new applications and operating systems. And before installing Vista I checked just about every company software and hardware provider we have just to make sure they would work and had drivers. Unfortunately I missed WS_FTP Pro. Every other app and piece of hardware my company uses was ready for Vista.

I rely on WS_FTP Pro for managing all of our content at our datacenters but now I have lost some faith in this company. Especially when it took them 2 days to send me the link to the download via email! And that doesn't include the 2 days lost over the weekend. (I sent the request for the update link on Friday and didn't hear back from them until Monday afternoon...an entire weekend of work lost.) And if that email had taken just one more hour they would have lost me as customer. I was just about to purchase an FTP client that did work with Vista. Why they're using email to resolve this issue makes absolutely no sense. Whoever is managing this at Ipswitch needs to wake up and fix that immediately. I sure hope they don't dissappoint me again.

CJ TheMan,

Valid comments.

The confusion is that there is Vista specific build that we have to distribute and which is different than what everyone was running pre Vista going gold.  The Vista build has worked with Vista Beta 2 and with the final release that went GA in Nov/06 but we have not executed well in getting the word out to customers about the availability of it and on how they can access it.

Yes, we are in the process of building a more automated system so that existing customers can access the Vista builds at any time or day of the week.  Look for details shortly.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Less than a year ago I stepped up to WS_FTP Pro from LE. A few months later version 2007 came out. 2006 was more than enough for my simple needs so there was no need to upgrade.

Now I'm being forced to purchase 2007 just so it will run on my new Dell running Vista Home Premium.

In order to keep working, I've downloaded FileZilla which has no problems running on Vista. AVG, Spy Sweeper, Firefox, Registry Mechanic, Eudora, ALL WORK with Vista! Why would the #1 FTP client that is less than a year old, not work and why would management have NO PLANS to fix this problem.

Upgrading to 2007 was not necessary last year and even THAT package, with all its differences, didn't work on Vista.

2006 is still supported by your company and available for download; it should be able to run on Vista. I should not be forced to buy features I don't need! Again, I'm talking about a product that is still supported and sold to me less than a year ago.

I have decided not to spend the money on the 2007 and will stick with FileZilla. I'm very disappointed.

Don't forget the 10-10-10 rule when it comes to customers...
"It takes 10-minutes to get a customer, 10-seconds to loose him, and 10-years to get him back."

I installed the Vista version and the hotfix but I get the message saying it's not compatible. Is this normal?

Normal is a matter of perspective but for the sake of argument:

YES, it will function properly under Vista.

However, they need to clear it up with Microsoft to put it on the accepted compatibility list so that it won't prompt anymore. For now, even though the application works fine under Vista (since the patch), it will still trigger MS compatibility warning.

Select, "Don't show this message again"
Click, "Run Program"

and it won't bug you again, its lame to do it this way but for now its the only way to get around that annoyance, it won't affect the function of the application though.
