Hi,
I do have a lot of fun answering your questions when I can do so.
However, I also would like to remind you that there is a nice knowledge Base at Ipswitch:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/
And also the Help in the program.
Most of the time, those 2 resources help you solve many issues!
After all, many of my answers I get them from there!

On top of it, when you send a question, please do add the version of the software you use and other relevant details (OS...)
It helps me to help you.

Thanks

Camaleonte

If I look for an answer in the knowledge base I am overwhelmd by articles about ALL versions of ALL WS_ftp products.

There doesn't seem to be a  method of limiting answesr to

ONLY WS_ftp PRO version 9.

Without this facility the knowledge base is next to useless.

Try permissions or chmod

I want information that I KNOW applies to the version that I have bought and not have to GUESS whether the information shown actually applies to my version.

A worse example is : when I search on "root" I get a list of 2, one of which links to information about the Transfer Manager ... which seems to have dissappeared in v9.

I use have used WS_FTP for 5 or more years so I know that the Transfer Manager used to be in the older versions ... but can you imagine how much time a new user would spend looking for the Transfer Manager in v9 ??? and probably dropping Ipswitch for another company!

Brian,
as I said in my original message here, I am having fun helping!!
It look like you are trying to tell ME something!

Lets move over it....

I can look for permission or chmode but I do not know what is your problem!!

About the transfer manager, it is still there:
If you look at the bottom of the WSFTP window, you will see 3 tabs:
Transfer Manager, Transfer History and Connection log!

If you have more to find out, try me!
Since the nature of my work, I use many of Ipswitch products... some more than others!!!
I still can try to help!

OK. Example:

I want to know where the chmod commands are in Version 9 of WS_FTP pro. I DO NOT want pages and pages full of results about chmod on version umpteen of products which I do not have (lite, server, v4,v5,v6,v7,v8).

Your KB does not allow this possibility and is therefore useless to me in practise.

Next: The transfer Manager.

I want the transfer manager (or similar) to stay permanently in view, and not dissappear at EXACTLY the moment that I need it. I like to have the Transfer Manager open but the information DISSAPPEARS MUCH TOO QUICKLY. So I am forced to have the Transfer History open but ... and I reaaly HATE THIS ..... Now when I click away to see the effect of the changes to the website THE DAMN TM WINDOW HAS DISAPPEARED and have to click it open again.

I also want the system to remember that:

- I ALWAYS want the latest transfers to show first. I ALWAYS want a reverse sort order on date. I couldn't give a s**t what I did last week, I WANT TO SEE WHAT I DID JUST A FEW SECONDS BEFORE. I probably use WS_FTP 20 to 50 times a day to move small numbers of files across to different websites. AND I HAVE TO CHANGE THE F#$#^&^ sort order EVERY DAMN TIME. THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY NEVER BEEN TESTED. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT FIT FOR THE MARKET AND DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY.

- I NEED to see, at a glance and without dragging column lines, which files where transfered, from which directory and at what time .... Version 9 DOES NOT remember the column widths when I change them ... this is criminal negligence on the part of the developers.

I am very pleased that you have fun answering my questions. That really makes me feel good. That really does take all the troubles of the world off my shoulders. You would not believe how much I am pleased that you are happy in your work. If you could actually do something which would make the rest of the world (or even the tiny subset "WS_FTP Pro V9 users") happy then your fun would not be a complete waste of time and space.

1. Maybe you could answer my other questions and all the dozens of unanswered questions from other people as well ... there are enough to choose from on the forum and almost all of them are still unanswered even after lots and lots of synical comments from forum members.

2. I am not having fun. I am really p******d off that I have spent money on what I consider to be a badly designed and practically unuseable product. I don't have the time now, but I will be looking for another product which does what I want and performs according to the de facto standards or useability. Version 9 DOES NOT.

Brian,
I think there is a big missunderstanding...
You too good and you should stay the way you are.

Keep it up.
