I'm not so convinced that WS_FTP is as good as my earlier (version 8) that I was using:  In 2006...

(1) I can't open more than one instance of the program at a time. I've been hunting for some kind of setting for this, but can't find any, and this 'feature' really limits ftp functioning in my usage.
(2) I often get inexplicable 'transfers are in progress...' alerts when closing the program, but all transfers completed just fine long before.
(3) I sometimes have to click the transfer button twice in order for it to initiate a transfer. I think this happens when I have just highlighted a file on the left pane, then click the button. Nothing happens until the next click, but it's easy to mistakenly think you've completed a transfer.
(4) It's slower now generally, rendering its gui, etc.
(5) The console window popping up on boot up is ugly and something I haven't seen in Windows programming in about 5 years.
(6) The disconnect button is blanked out unless I click in the right panel. Before, I could always see the disconnect button and simply click on it to disconnect. Awkward and non-intuitive I'd say.

Hopefully some of these features will change, or become options.

Hi Budsy,

I have been using 2006 for sometime now and find it working justr peachy but I want to address your #1 & #6 which are related.

(1) I can't open more than one instance of the program at a time. I've been hunting for some kind of setting for this, but can't find any, and this 'feature' really limits ftp functioning in my usage.

Are you aware you can open more than one connection without opening separate instances of the program? Sure saves on memory. each connection will open in it's own tabbed session in the right panel.

(6) The disconnect button is blanked out unless I click in the right panel. Before, I could always see the disconnect button and simply click on it to disconnect. Awkward and non-intuitive I'd say.

Those tabs I mentioned are the reason for this: you want to be sure that you are disconnecting the right FTP connection.

As to your other issues I guess I don't have them. Everthing looks fine to my forgiving eyes and my speed is a snap!

Cheers,

Chip

Good. The points about #1 and #6 make sense now. Funny I never noticed that feature...but then, I've only had the program for a few weeks. Thanks for the tip.
