Hi,

This is my first email server and I'm trying to figure it out. I followed through the instal direction but am running into this problem.

When I send an email to any account I get this response:

550 error xx.xx.15.14 does not like recipient.

The account is there and I can telnet to ports 25 and 110. I'm just not sure what it does not like..

any ideas?

What's your SMTP security settings?

IMail Administrator\localhost\Services\SMTP\SMTP Security

I now have it set to:

Relay mail for everyone
allow remote mail to local groups
allow remote view of local groups
check valid sender
auto-deny possible hack attempts

is any of this wrong? I tried relay for everyone to troubleshoot but it made no diff...

ideas?

That doesn't look like an IMail error message. Are you running Microsoft SMTP or any other SMTP programs on the server? If so, they need to be disabled.

Is this message occurring when E-mail is sent to users on your IMail server, or with outgoing E-mail sent through your IMail server to other mailservers?

OK,

I think I have a better grip on the problem.

The mail server is win2003 and is not on a domain. Its name is www1.
For DNS and Imail setup fully qualified domain name I entered mail.mydomain.com.

When I send to a user@mydomain.com I get the error, when I send to user@mail.mydomain.com it goes through. I'm assuming at this point I should just reset the DNS and Imail setup to mydomain.com and drop the mail..

Is this the trick? I assume I don't need the www1.mydomain.com entered anywhere.

thanks!

one last question.. doesn't that mess up web access?

sorry about being so newbish.. like I said its my first mail server....
