I need to move the spool directory away from C: and on to another drive.

I tried to move it but it broke Imail . . .and all mail stopped. I tried to move it and then make changes in the registry and in imail. . . still didn't like the change.

any suggestions on the correct method (one that the software likes)?

All you need to do is to replace:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\Imail\Global [SpoolDir]

...and restart all services. I don't know other correct method.
