Hello,

I am currently backing up all outgoing e-mail messages to a single inbox using the Copy All Mail feature.  This feature is lacking for a couple of reasons.  1) Obviously this does not back up incoming messages.  2)  The increasing file size (approximately 1 gig per month) is becoming unmanageable.  Retrieving messages takes forever in preliminary tests.

The requirement is that we are able to back up ALL MESSAGES whether incoming or outgoing, not just outgoing messages.  It is also a requirement that we are able to easily retrieve messages that have been either sent or recieved.  Finally, I would like to be able to limit the size of the attachments that get backed up.

Does IPSwitch's I-Mail have this ability, or do I need to migrate to Exchange for such features?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Regards,
Carlos Perez

'Copy All Mail' does copy both incoming and outgoing messages.

Sandy, thank you for your reply.  I am trying to verify this but haven't been able to do so yet because it takes so long to open the inbox containing the messages...

There's got to be a better way of backing up messages.

Another problem I'm having is that I am CONSTANTLY running in to postmaster e-mail error messages when people try to send e-mails in the middle of the night because the file is locked for backup...  Any tips on this?

Carlos

There's no need to verify the behavior.  If it didn't work as designed, it'd have been broken for at least 4 versions of IMail and would have been flagged by the many people that use the feature for archiving.

IME, it's not nearly as inefficient as you're making it out to be.  You just need to either (a) add some filters on the copybox to redirect messages to rule-based mailboxes or (b) rotate out the main.mbx by renaming it to <datestamp>.mbx every night before the backup.
