RE: Firewall issues

I checked the log and it wasn't turned on. When I set it up to log it started working. That was a couple days ago and it stopped again. I know its got to be something simple that I'm missing. Can any one help?:crazy:

you can inspect the log file C:\WINDOWS\pfirewall.log

assuming this is the windows firewall you are referring to.

I am using the standard.

What I get now is Error reading response from server

How do I find out that port 21 is being blocked?

I have to make an assumption... Standard FTP, not SSL or SSH...

FTP uses port 21 for the command channel and 1024 and above for data channel, so if 21 is blocked, you won't be able to connect and login. High order ports are needed to get directory listings and transfer files.

If this is an SSH ftp, then port 22 is used for all communications.

If SSL, things get more complicated... so start with standard FTP and get that working first to know the Server is working and communications are open...

If NAT is involved, there are settings in Server to compensate, see Help system. Also see the Knowledge base to get more answers.

Hi,

I've just loaded 6.1 and cannot get into the ftp site from the outside unless I disable the firewall on the server.

What am I missing?
