Any Joy with this feature in 2007.1.0.0. I use SSH keys for all out machines and do not even know the local passwords.

sftp does it all and is free. I dumped WS-FTP after a Windows update killed it, and they would not fix it. I advise others to do likewise.

FYI I have version 9 and the alt-i brings up the import on this version as well. Did not test further though.

The option is available in 2007 client! how do I know this, because after stumbling across the same friggin issue and luckily for me I got some useful feedback;

To import a 3rd party SSH key into WS_FTP client, go to tools -> options -> ssh -> client keys

Once you have clicked on client keys, press ALT + I on your keyboard, you will be presented with a prompt to import your 3rd party keys, follow the steps to import your public and private key pair.

I'm yet to see this documented on the Ipswitch site, but I may be wrong.

It's a shame that Ipswitch let themselves down with poor support channels, they have decent products and would be the market leader if they cleaned up their act. But support is terrible.... I've had better support from an outsourced helpdesk in india!

I just spoke with IPSwitch Tech Support. It has been 18 months and this feature still has not been released. The technician was very polite and helpful on the phone but could not locate any target release date for SSH key import. Apparently, customers either generate new keys whenever they use a new PC or simply purchase a competitive product from another manufacturer. I will need to pursue the latter...:angry:

WS-FTP is the most non-responsive company I have ever dealt with, so I dumped the program. Try psftp which is free and understands keys, SecurID, etc

Has anyone been able to import SSH keys? I just downloaded the latest 2007 version of WS_FTP_Professional and still cannot see the SSH Import wizard/button. Please confirm if this functionality is in the product or if there is a workaround. Thanks.

So is importing an SSH key a feature in the new release of the ftp client? It would seem to me that this would be a major turn off to potential customers not to have this feature. I know its frustrating to me.

The 'maybe' in svang's message doesn't sound promising. I wonder if it is going to be after the Nth revision.

Logically if you require SFTP/SCP you already use a key to access the server via ssh, why did the writers think that everyone would delete their own keys or make things insecure by adding more keys to a secure account.

It IS in the help file. Can't you just give is the wizard as a separate app before a new release? This lack of functionality ruins WS-FTP for me.

WS_FTP Pro 2006 does not support importing SSH keys. Ipswitch is aware of this and may include it as an option in future releases.

Importing keys is a requirement, not an option. WS-FTP cannot assume that it generates the keys! Why hasn't someone from Ipswitch repliad to this topic?

When you look at the SSH for importing, there is only an option to Export. This would be a great feature if we could import SSH keys from other apps.

I have the same problem. Help saye there is an ssh key import wizard for both public and priv ate keys. But Help does not say how to access this wizard.

I cannot generate new keys. I MUST use the keys I have because they have been distributed to computers across the country.

The Security manual says that keys can be inported, but does not say how.

What was requested was how to import an putty ssh key, but you replied with the options to import what is called SSL certificate which is not the same.

I would still like to know how to import either a putty key (.ppk) or OpenSSH key pairs.

I guess you cannot import SSH keys into WS_FTP. The only thing that I see that can be imported, are PGP keys.

I have a key pair that I created using PuTTY keygen, and I need these keys to access a site that I have been using other sFTP programs with. How can I import these keys into WS_FTP Pro? It is a real pain to generate new keys in WS_FTP and to get the server that I access to change the SSH Keys. (Corporate Red Tape)
