Saving Destination File Name In Site Configuration For Continued Use

I am somewhat new to using WS_FTP Pro. In other FTP utilities we are able to save the file name for the source and destination. This was very helpful in ensuring consistency in file transfers.

Our source directory changes with each run, so the user needs to be able to change the source directory before transfering any files. I have the site configured for a base source directory and the required target directory, but I cannot figure out how to allow the user to change the source directory and not have to worry about manually renaming the file on the target side (either during or after the transfer).

As stated, I want the user to be able to change the source directory, but not have to be concerned with the file names. Once in the desired source directory, they should be able to select the disired source file and transfer it to the destination without having to manually change the name.

Is it possible to store the desired destination file name in the site configuration, or in some other area, to ensure consistency in the transfers? If the file name is not correct on the destination after the transfer, the susequent process will fail or produce erroneous results.

Displaying / modifying group and owner

How can I display the owner and group for each file/directory in the right-hand (remote server) view? I've looked through the settings and haven't found anything, nor have I come across any mention of it in the forums.

I'm new to WS_FTP Pro, and just purchased a couple liceses for our content managers and admins, and they need the ability to re-assign groups after transfering their files. I haven't found a way to do that with WS_FTP.

It's not that useful if I can change my RWX attributes but not see or set the respective owner or group Am I missing something obvious?

(Running the latest build of WS_FTP Pro. Remote system is a RedHat Enterprise box, and the SFTP subsystem is from OpenSSH_3.5p1, locked at SSH2)

Scheduling a script

I have a Windows WebServer 2008 server, I am running version 12 of WS_FTP Professional. I have created to files, one is a script that creates a trace file and log file and then connected to a remote SFTP server and transfers a file from our server to a destination server.

We have a .bat file scheduled as a Windows task that runs every 30 minutes, the first line contains the ftpscrpt -f command and the location of the .scp file mentioned above. Then a move command is done to move the file after the transfer to an archive folder. Then the trace and log files are renamed with a date and time stamp.

My problem is this, if I run the .bat file manually, the scp file is run and it connects to the remote SFTP server, and performs the rest of the items in the .bat file. When scheduled as a Windows task, the task runs the .bat file, but seems to bypass the ftpscrpt command, I know it is running through the .bat file because it is moving the file to the archive folder. When running the .bat file manually it take about a couple of minutes for it to connect and perform the operation, when in the Windows task, the file is moved about 5 seconds after the execution, so I know it is bypassing or erroring on the ftpscrpt -f line.

The user running the task is the Administrator account on the server.

Any help would be appreciated.

WS FTP Pro hangs on Windows 7

Hi, anyone on Windows 7 has managed to run WS FTP? Incredibly it hangs when waiting for the site's password to be entered. I have tried the various ompatibility modes for running it with no results (Vista, XP SP2, etc.). I have tried it on two machine with same results.

I have Pro 2007 on a Windows XP (home) computer with plenty of memory. The program can take a minute or two before it opens. It will give me a (Not Responding) message at the top and just hang there. Then after what seems like an indeterminable time, it will open. Once it opens, it works perfectly. But it can be annoying waiting for a long time before I can work. I had this problem with the last version as well. I have installed the program on my laptop and it has the same problem. I've searched the board for advice and find it hard to believe that I am the only one who has this problem. Anyone have any ideas on this?

The problem is:

only one condition work..

How can I test if the connection is good to me send the file?

Observation: I need to have two conditions because if the connection is down I need to move the files to the FAILED folder.

TransferReq2-00001.log not getting created

The log file "TransferReq2-00001.log" containing the transmission details is not getting created in the "\\wapprib00001031\c$\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Ipswitch\WS_FTP\Logs" folder. Instead there are individual rtf files getting created for each site when a transmission is performed. Is there a setting that needs to be activated in order to generate the "TransferReq2-00001.log" file?

Copying files on remote server

When copying files from one directory to another, both directories on a remote machine, does WS-FTP Pro download the file to my local machine, and then upload it to the new remote folder?

I tried copying a blog directory last night, (12 Mb). WS_FTP worked at it all night, and had not finished by morning. I'm wondering what took so long.

Hello all, Adrian here.

I have recents downlaoded a trial version of WS_FTP pro however when I used the syntax of: CWD outbound/ZZA1;PWD;REST 1024;TYPE I;RETR FILE1.* in the Initialize command lins and I get the below:

Also can MGET FILE1.??? be used in the GUI interface?

No Scheduled Task exists but it runs anyway!

I setup a couple of backups to run overnight however after the first run, I realised I'd set the wrong local directory. I tried to edit/remove these in order to have them set correctly but they don't appear either in the Backup Manager or the Scheduler:

Each morning, I have a couple of 'paused' jobs in my Information window indicating that these have run - when I then click on Schedule there and delete them, they STILL re-appear the following day.

Where can I delete these once and for all?

WS_FTP Pro uninstallation

Hello,

I recently completed a 30-day evaluation of WS_FTP professional. I am encountering considerable difficulty when attempting to uninstall your product using the "add or remove programs" utility in Windows. After the uninstallation completes, several dozen of my critical system tool shortcuts disappear from the start menu on my desktop computer. I can use system restore to recover the deleted shortcuts however in the process it also resurrects the product installation. I attempted a manual uninstall of the product however, some of the files are protected from deletion. Reinstalling the product and then repeating the uninstallation produced the same result. Can you suggest a safer way to uninstall your product that does not result in collateral damage to my desktop. Here are a few particulars:

O/S : Windows XP Home Edition SP3

Hardware: HP Pavilion desktop, 320 MB of RAM, Intel celeron processor 633 MHz

Expanding Folders takes a long time

Just curious why the program needs to expand folders and why it takes so long - If I use other free ftp clients, they start sending the data imediately, whereas Pro expands folders, and all transfers are "pending" and the free clients have 1/3 of the data transfered by the time Pro finishes expanding.

(I asked tech service - my 60 day warrenty period is up so they can't answer questions about their product - nice!)

Latest version - does it still have the "expanding folders " problem?

I am an existing user of wsFTP (perfectly functional older version 9.01) and am considering upgrading to the latest Pro version. I use wsFTP solely due to familiarity of the i/f and the security of the stored passwords. These are the only benefits that keep me using the commercial rather than free products such as filezilla, compelling reasons nonetheless.

I have an urge to purchase the latest Pro version caused specifically by the desire to speed up transfers. I often have the requirement to transfer very large CM systems containing hundreds if not thousands of folders. This is impossible with the version of wsFTP that I have as it spends hours (literally) doing something called "expanding folders" when the other competing ftp tools such as filezilla have done the transfer and finished. I have tested this and it is proven to be a fact.

So, does the current version of WsFTP have the option to disable Expanding folders/cacheing of sub-folders? I simply want this to be turned OFF so that the transfer starts immediately. If the current version does not have this then there is no reason to upgrade wsFTP as there is no benefit to me of having a ftp client that stalls or prevents transfers from occurring - by design.

If this is configurable then I intend to make the purchase now simply to remove this functionality.

Folders not showing

Using WS-FTP Professional 2007 and when I connect to my ftp sites from my home broadband network everything works fine. However when I connect to the same sites using a free WiFi service at my local airport the folders on the remote site are not shown?

Do I need to configure something to resolve this? I understand that the free WiFi service initially connects through the local telecom company's web site so that they can control what web sites you visit, they block out unsavoury ones!

Any help much appreciated.

FTP file incomplete

We are using WS_FTP pro to retrieve files from an external site using the script utility. However the file is being cut off and not downloading completely, as if there is a maximum value allowed to be downloaded. If I do the transfer manually it works. No errors in trace or log - says file was successfully downloaded but the bytes transferred is not the entire file.

FTP 12 Professional: windows no longer display.

I have been using this product with no issues for quite some time. Now, for some reason it connects but the transfer windows do not display. Instead, all I get is a small blue toolbar that lists [b]Connections, View, Tools, Help[/b]. I feel like it's a simple fix to get the transfer windows back, but I can't seem to figure it out going going through the toolbar options. Help!

We are currently running WS_FTP Pro V12.2 on a Windows 2008 32bit server without any issues but now need to install the full version of .Net4 and C++ 2010 X86 redistributables on the server. Can you confirm there is no issues with FTP Pro running withe the above updates.

I upload and download frequently complete sites to and from one server.
Every time I download a site, WS FTP Pro get slow at the end, asking several times for replacement of some files.
Also, I got this error always:
Failed 1 Subitem(s) failed

If I download a site with, example, OpenCart store, it does not work when I upload it back.
If I use other software, like FileZilla, the files work fine.

Any help will be appreciated.

HTTPS Connections

We are currently using another product to connect to a vendor who, for reasons known only to themselves, insist on using an HTTPS connection for file transfers. Once we're connected to their server, we are upload a file into a subdirectory. As we are in the process of moving from 32 bit Windows XP machines to a combination of 64 bit Windows 7/Windows Server 2008, we thought now would be a good time to eliminate the use of this other product and standardize all of our file transfer applications through WS_FTP.

However, WS_FTP seems unable to fully connect to the vendor's server. WS_FTP indicates that it is able to connect to the remote server, however, the following appears in the Connection Log:

We are able to successfully connect using both the old tool and through a web browser. The initial assumption was that the vendor server is requiring the login credentials to be provided through basic access authentication and that WS_FTP is instead attempting to provide them via a POST, but the logs seem to suggest that WS_FTP is also trying to use basic authentication. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of documentation regarding how to use WS_FTP for HTTPS connections.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how we can get this working would be greatly appreciated.

Hide WS_FTP Synchronize Utility Window

I am using the Synchronize Utility in WS_FTP Professional 12. I am also using the Schedule option. I have a synchronize task that runs every 30 minutes. Is there a way to hide/stop the WS_FTP Synchronize Utility Window from displaying each time the task runs (every 30 minutes).

Email notifications upon failure

Hi we use the script utility to send files via IPSwitch and when it works we get an email, however when they don't work (can't connect, no file to send, etc) then the script exits and we don't get a failure email despite having the either success or failure option selecting in the email notifications. Can anyone provide a sample of a script that fails for missing file and then emails?

WSFTP error - does not appear to have been installed correctly for current user

I used WSFTP often and this just started happening today. No modifications have been made to my computer or program.

Please do not say it is UAC or it needs to be ran as admin because it has been working with UAC enabled and without admin rights ever since I have had it.

Someone else can log on that has the same permissions as me and it works fine under their profile. I beleive it may be something in my appdata directory but I removed entried realted to wsftp from their, saw them rebuild and still have the same error.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can WS_FTP Pro accept file pushed by a FTP server

for security reason, we need to push files (at regular interval) from a ftp server to a ws_ftp client, instead of the normal mode that ws_ftp will proactively access the server side to pull files.

Would appreciate if someone can let me know if this feature is supported by ws_ftp professional v12.3 or not. if yes, how shall we config it? thanks

Decryption Problem

I am having a problem decrypting a file that was encrypted with my public PGP key that I created. When I decrypt it, it's empty. I am using WS_FTP Pro 9.1. RSS 2048 on the Key. The files I encrypt and upload can be decrypted, just the file that are posted for me to pickup come back empty. I know they have data, just not decrypting properly. Any help would be appreicated.

Version Professional 12.3 not showing all files in the server folder

I dont know how long this problem has been there, maybe since the install of the professional version

As its not often I bother to scroll down through the files in the server window, ie. my www site host., But I have just noticed that its now showing all the files in the server (remote) folder.

Its showing all the files in alphanumeric order up to "I" and nothing after that

Even if I reupload a bunch of other files further down the alphabet eg. say ones starting with t,u,v,w etc

then refresh the remote folder those files still dont show.

I know those files are there, as all my www site pages, images, that include that material, are working ok

Any thoughts as to what is going on ?

Personally I just wished I had stayed with WS FTP Home as it did all I needed, somewhere along the line I got forced to upgrade to the professional verson

Occasionally we notice a pop up the says that WS_FTP Pro 12 is not licensed. When we open The License Managaer it reports that there is already an active license on the server. If we refresh it it completes successfully but in a few days the error will pop up again.

Error decrypting file

We created a new public/private key pair recently and provided the public key to the organization we are exchanging files with. We are able to encrypt files using their public key and send them but are unable to decrypt files from them. We have an other existing organizations working successfully but they were set up by others, long ago. It seems like it's not finding our private key to decrypt the file (see below log). I'm not sure if this is the actual issue or possibly just occuring because of something else. I'm sorry, I'm new to the IPSwitch software so any advice on what or where to look first would be most helpful.

Can't connect to Windows SFTP server

I've read several posst here with similar issues, but not the same. I have a windows server running Silver Shield SFTP server and I can connect with virtually any SFTP client from any platform except not with WSFTP. We own multiple pro licensaes of this software so I'd like to get it to work. I turned debugging on in the logs and I got this:

WSFTP Pro 2007 Failed to Connect To Destination Error

Am new to WSFTP 2007. Ran the schedule wizard and connected to source and destination.

Source is associated with a SSH FTP Site.

Destination is associated with a directory on the local host.

The log indicates the connection and transfer occurs however upon checking the destination directory, no file. The log indicates a Fail to Connect to Destination Error.

The 2007 hotfix was installed tonight and the result is unchanged. It is urgent that we get this working preferably using the wizard since an Operations person will be managing the recurring scheduled data transfers.

Please advise.

Does ws_ftp 7 require clear text password on their partners SSH server at the time of connection?

We are having a problem connecting to a customers sftp server. Logs show that the password is returning as failed. This connection works (using the same password) in ws_ftp12 as well as FileZilla. The ftp admin for the customer posed the above question to us as this may be a cause of the issue. I would like to confirm that this may be causing our issue. Logs are below:

Clients using WS FTP_Pro recently stopped being able to conect to our zFTP Server.
There are getting a socket timeout after the initial connect (when SSH information is typically exchanged).

On the client side we see:

WS FTP Pro 12/SFTP connections to other hosts work OK.

Unfortunately, the client is in an organization where an older version of WS FTP Pro is their only choice and that version only supports SFTP (which isn't working).

Any help on getting SFTP to connect from WS FTP Pro would be appreciated.

remembering folders FTP Prp version 9

I have wft pro version 9

I prefer my old version 6 now because its simple to use

this pro version does not remember what folders I was using. I have checked 'remember folders' option in viewing options

but verytime I 'change' to a different website, it does not remeber the folder and I have to reset it.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, i used the WS FTP Freeware for some time and have now purchased WS FTP Pro.

I want to transfer the existing FTP Account Data (Username and Password) to the new Pro one, but i dont know how to do it.

I do not want to add all the Details new, because i do not know the Passwords any more and they are not shown.

Who can give me advice ?
