I'm having a problem with updating the license to get a June 1st expiry.

I have my serial number pre-filled when I run the 'Manage WhatsUp Gold v12 License', but when I click next, I get the message:

"There is a general error with activation please try again or call technical support at (781) 555-1212".

I have noticed that the pre-filled serial number is truncated from that which I was emailed - don't know if that makes any difference (although I have noticed that this is the case in license.txt generated by WhatsUp as well).

Manzr,

If you "refresh" your license you should get a new one that expires on June 1, 2008. To "refresh" the license:

1) Move your existing license.txt from you WhatsUp installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\WhatsUp) to any other folder.

2) Start the license management tool by using the Start->All Programs->Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold Premium Edition v12->Manage WhatsUp Gold License shortcut.

3) Once the license management dialog comes up, enter the serial number you received in email after registering for TPP and click Next.

4) Once activation is complete, a dialog asking your permission to restart the polling engine and web server will be displayed. Click "Yes".

5) Make sure that the new license has June 1 expiration date by launching the WhatsUp console and then delete the old license.txt that you copied in step 1.

Hi I'm very new to this program and would like some help in regards to get a new serial number for version 12 as I only have a trial version wich is due to expire in the next 45 days.

Serieal no - 0749M-6YKKX-R6SCP

I'm also Having a few little problems with the Device Discovery is running very slow - it starts up as normall but after getting to the mid 90% using an Ip range scan it just sits there for 4+ hours.

Yamato,

Do you have "File and printer sharing for Microsoft networks" installed? You can check this by going to Control Panel->Network Connections and then right clicking the "Local Area Network" and selecting "Properties" from the menu. Here is a screenshot of what the properties window looks like:

Hello all, i'm french and i apologize for my english.
I have a problem when i want install the v12.
I install window installer 3.1 and after, .net framework 2.0.
And when i launch the whatsup exe, i have its error:

I have boths client and services installed and launched.
I don't understand this error, because the v11.3 good work with msde 2000

~~Could you (and anyone else that has an expiration date of May 1st, rather than June 1st) please PM or email me your serial number?~~ Some TPP licenses were issued with the wrong date. We will change it from up here and have you "refresh" your license through the use of the start menu option "Manage WhatsUp Gold v12 license".

We have resolved the issue. If you have a license that will expire on May 1st, open the license manager via the start menu. Start > Programs > Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold Version 12 > Manage WhatsUp Gold v12 license

If you are given the option to "refresh" the license, choose that.

If you are presented with an activation dialog click "next" and if your serial number is pre-populated, click "activate". If it is not pre-poplated, paste in the long serial number (23 digits) from the TPP email you received and click "activate".

Hi,

It sounds like an offline activation was initiated. Find the license.ofa file located in your WhatsUp directory and delete it. Then relaunch WhatsUp and follow the prompts to activate. If the activation process cannot reach our server for whatever reason (firewall, proxy etxc), it will give instructions for offline activation. This consists of generating the license.ofa file again and uploading it to our server for conversion into a license.txt file.

Re-ran the upgrade program and selected 'repair' and have now been able to enter my serial number and all is fine.

Like the previous poster though, I only apparently have 15 days of evaluation left....

I've just upgraded my version 12 install. However, I don't get the option to include the serial number when I select "Purchase/Unlock", or for offline registration.

My only choice is to select the license file location and activate. Clicking activate tells me that 'X' is not a valid license file for WhatsUp Gold V12 (existing v.12 license.txt does not work).

I've requested a new license, but at the moment I'm a bit stuck....

My server isn't behind a proxy, and isn't blocked by the firewall for any outbound connections.

I installed WhatsUp Gold 12.0 Technical Preview RC1 on an extra Server and it works fine.
But it shows me that the License expires May 01, 2008. Is this correct?

Please read the following instructions carefully before attempting to upgrade!

Instructions for upgrading from TPP Build 1:

Do you have the original email with the serial number? If so, proceed with the instructions below. If not, skip to "Instructions for upgrading from TPP Build 1 without SN".

2. Run the installation program as an administrator. Be sure to backup your database during the upgrade wizard. If you are using a non-default database environment, the install will prompt you to upgrade your database using the database upgrade script. This script must be run on the machine where the WhatsUp database exists.

3. On the finish screen, if the "Launch" option is checked, WhatsUp Gold will start automatically after you click on the "Finish" button. If not, on your next launch of WhatsUp Gold, you will see the "Invalid License" dialog.

4. Click on the "Purchase/Unlock" button. Copy the 23 character serial number from your registration email into the "Serial Number" field and click "Activate". You should see a confirmation page indicating the license has been activated. If you do not, you may be behind a proxy or firewall which is blocking our activation request. In this case, click the "Offline" button and follow the subsequent instructions.
* Note: A bug currently exists that prevents you from overwriting the "offline.ofa" file which may be present in your WhatsUp installation directory. Please save the offline file to another location.

5. After activating, click "Yes" on the dialog prompting you to restart the Engine and Web Server services.

6. Run the product as normal, clicking "Continue Evaluation" on the dialog seen when opening WhatsUp Gold.
