Well what do you know, we started using attributes. So there's support for attribute display in there now.

Also added the ability to do a "Poll Now" or set Maintenance mode on a whole group, instead of only individual devices.

Yet another little fix uploaded; if a group contained devices and child groups, only the devices were being shown. This is now fixed, and child groups are shown at the top of the list.

With the exception of authentication, I think I'm about done with this -- unless anyone has any big ideas for me (that also happen to mesh with the way our company uses WhatsUp.) If so, post them here.

Devices inside dynamic groups are now displayed properly. It's a bit of a hack job, as the query has to be pulled out of the database and chopped up, so let me know if there are problems. It worked fine in my testing with the example dynamic groups and a couple of very basic ones that we use.

The only thing missing for me now is authentication. I started doing something with HTTP basic authentication but then realized that the webserver in WhatsUp won't let me use the Response.Status property from ASP. So I can't send a 401 response to the client and ask for a password. Instead, it may come down to a separate login page that sets a cookie. I had hoped to avoid another page, since things can be slow over a cell phone, but I may not have a choice. Whatever the case, it will be optional and off by default, look for it in the next few weeks.

Edit: Just made one more small tweak to the dynamic group display, should now display the name of the group properly, and handle dynamic groups with carriage returns in their queries.

Same here; I'll check into it when I get a chance. Likely the DB structure is different for dynamic groups.

Does this have the ability to show the contents of a Dynamic Group? I configured it to show the dynamic folders themselves but upon click it doesn't seem to show any contents.

The attributes are all stored separately in the database, you'll have to modify the SQL to pull them in, but you'll end up with multiple records that will need to be looped through. We don't use attributes, so I have no intention of adding them in, my employer probably wouldn't appreciate that use of my time :)

No, there is no background color, as I found the green a bit hard to read on the majority of the device groups. But you're right it will be necessary now, with nested groups sitting on top of each other. I'll have the file uploaded momentarily. But I'm going to make the OK color white, I still don't like that green!

It doesn't look like you defined a color style for the "ok" state for handheld browsers in default.asp. As a result, all of my folders were showing up red, even though they should have been green. Thanks for sharing such a cool tool!

I just posted an update to the file, nested groups are now displayed as nested lists. The Blackberry browser has some problems with indenting lists nested more than 2 deep, but not much to be done about that. My HTML is good!

I also cleaned up the code somewhat, so should be more efficient now.

I made a small update to the zip file (one line actually) which should limit caching of the pages to 5 minutes. I'm trying to get a nested group list working, hopefully I can have something next week or so.

The port is not able in your BB . This is Why not Function. Try Configuring the Server on por 80 (HTTP) o 443 (HTTPS) and tell us how is working.

I've got it working on an htc s620 simply connected through our wireless hubs to the wug server.

Not exactly sure what it should look like on a blackberry so i've attached a screenshot for the s620. Is this correct? (sshot001.bmp)

Thought I best do a quick update to my post with a second screenshot (sshot002.bmp) This is with the s620 in single column mode, also I didnt reaise that it wont show colours if you have custom device states (which I did).

So this is how it looks with a basic WUG setup. BTW, 10 out of 10 for the maintenance mode addition.

No alerts, it just shows red if it's down. Anyone have the ability to post screenshots? I'm on a Mac, and the only software I've found for screen captures needs to be loaded on the PC with Desktop Manager. Captures are then made while the handheld is plugged into the USB cable.

My guess would be it's something in your handheld settings or your BES server if you have one, as I don't have any problem with it caching. I should be able to add headers to ensure that no caching is performed, just to be safe. Check back for an update in a couple of days.

The important ones are background colours so you can see what's down, and the CSS media type as handheld so it doesn't try to give you the "regular browser" version. I don't believe any of those other settings will make much of a difference, as most are the opposite of what I use!

As stated we use BlackBerry 8703e in our network, and I did correct my handheld's config to view the mobile WUG site. These may be BB specific, but I hope it helps:

How is this working in IIS, i can´t work in IIS, only in WhatsUp Web Server is OK. I use an IIS Whats UP interface OK. but the mobile option is not working

You mean on a Blackberry? You could get a Blackberry emulator from RIM to see how it will work.

I've updated the attachment in the first post to include a maintenance mode link for devices.

For the people getting errors with IIS, I wonder if this has to do with problems including the files? I changed the include statements to use absolute paths, maybe this will help.

Also I expanded the list of browsers considered 'mobile' by default. I tried it out with Opera Mini and it was trying too hard to render like a desktop browser; the results were not good. The regexp is now /blackberry|nokia|opera mini/i.

I like the maintenance mode idea.

Nested groups are probably a good idea; we only have 2 or 3 nested groups, so flattening them wasn't a problem for us. It could be tricky because the database doesn't store a field to say if a group has children, only what its parent group ID is. Probably it would involve indexing the group array with the group ID and then structuring the array similarly to how you want the data displayed.

Our WUG server is on the internet, so this isn't a problem for me. If it's internal and you're running BES, you might be able to access intranet servers from your Blackberry though. Otherwise you'll need to get your WUG out to the internet somehow.

In your browser options you can choose what type of stylesheet to request; as a handheld device, it should be set to handheld. This might possibly cause problems with a very few other sites, but only if they're not well coded.

How is your blackberry getting to the correct site by going to the https: site you listed above? If you're WUG environment is internal, how is that DNS name visible through the blackberry browser? Do you have your WUG host name DNS entry posted so a public IP address can get to it? Thanks for the help.

We are running v11.0.3 on the standard build with MSDE, myself and the rest of the network engineering team have BlackBerry 8703e mobiles.

It works well for displaying concise info, however, I have noticed that on one team members BB he show the background color for the device status, and my BB does not. Must be BB setting, any thoughts?

Here's a little something I've been working on lately. The files expect to be in a subfolder of the HTML folder -- I suggest C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\Whatsup\HTML\mobile. It would then be accessed by https://servername/mobile/ (note that you need that trailing slash.)

Access control is an exercise left up to you.
[b]Edit:[/b] I'm going to build access control into this, hopefully with a link into the WUG authentication system, otherwise with a fixed username/password

Our setup is a basic one, version 11.03 with no external SQL server or IIS involved; I don't know how it would react in a different environment.
[b]Edit:[/b] Apparently others have this working on IIS and/or external database installations. Also, it seems to work under WUG version 12 as well.

There's a config file for setting a few basic things; you shouldn't have to touch the other files at all (unless you want to.)

Also handy for standard browsers when you don't have all day to wait for the traditional interface to show you what you're looking for!
