One of the best features is being able to look back at past IM conversations. I don't know about you, but I have a lot of solid work done through IM and in other clients, once I closed the window, the conversation was gone. Being able to retrieve it, pick up the conversation, revive it and add others to it... it's pretty cool. Keeps the conversation going so that you don't have to restate alot of what was said.

Also.. I use email a lot to sort of "datestamp" my comments and validate that I "said" something... having this IM feature gives a sort of IM version of that business practice. But that's probably just me...

(From what I understand... the recording of IM conversations is a feature that can be turned on or off at the server level and if the messages are stored on the server, the IM client does let you know that the messages are being stored. Some people don't like their messages being stored... I don't mind.)

We have found, by using IIM internally, that the full context messaging is very handy. Let's say that you are having a conversation with someone and you close the conversation because it's finished but the other person didn't close his conversation. Later on if he continues with the conversation your window picks right up where it left off. The whole conversation is redisplayed to you. Also, you can easily pull up old conversations from days prior if you need to refresh youself on what was said. You can also continue that same conversation with the other person if you want to.

One thing we find incredibly useful internally is the fact that you can add somebody to an ongoing conversation and that person will be able to view the entire conversation and be caught up on the issue immediately. Like, say I'm being asked questions I can't answer, so I add to the chat window someone who can answer. No retyping or explanation is necessary; the third person just reads the conversation up to that point, and gives the answers.

Really speeds things up.

Hello,

My company has approximately 20 users who currently use MSN messenger to message between two offices. I looked at the list of features offered by Ipswitch IM and it nice that file transfer capabilities have been implemented but other than that it seems like it lacks some of the capabilities of MSN message (such as voice, video, etc).

I was wondering if anyone who was in a similar situation could give me their experience on the topic. Beyond the advantage of using a private IM system and cutting down on user talking to people outside the company, what are some pros/cons of the Ipswitch IM package vs. MSN messenger?
