At the time I had a need to run some other windows software. Later I did not need windows very much so it became ridiculous to maintain 1 gig of drive space for the Windows OS just to run IM. Now I run redesktop to terminal services on a windows server that I have IMclient running on. It is a pain to have an extra window open just for this, but for now it is my best alternative at this point. You can't hear the audio alerts, but the flashing taskbar does get my attention when a message comes in. I run my X on a machine with two monitors so the rdesktop session is always open on one screen with just enough of the task bar showing at the bottom. I did use VNC for this earlier but I found rdesktop to terminal service to be faster.

RE: Linux support

I was able to get it working with Mandrake and Wine as well. I also have the same issues that you have. Its sad realy cause I still have to rely on a laptop running windows Just so I can use IM. Im hoping that IPSwitch will comearound and make a linux client for the application.

RE: Linux support

I actually got IMClient.exe to run under Fedorat Core2 and latest wine. Has several problems though. The contact list has a black background which makes it unreadable until you click on a contact. I tried adjusting colors in the Skin.ini but that didn't seem to help any. File download seems to lock it up. Url's did bring up mozilla when you click on them though which was surprising. Maybe someday we can use this in Linux, but doesn't look like we are quite there.

Linux support

The company I work for has bought IM for in house messanging. There are a few of us about to use linux ( Debain, Mandrake, RedHat, It dont matter) However, we would like to get the IM client to work from the linux OS. I was able to get the client to launch useing Mandrake 10.1b and wine. Trouble was thatthe client seems to freeze. I was able to log in and people were able to see me on line. However, I could not get messages and I could not see people online. I would have to kill the app. Other wise it would just hang there.

I did speak with the IP switch support team and they have confirmed that this was built as a windows IM client. There was no linux client created. (that they told me of)

Just looking for any thought or ideas.

Thanks
