It appears the installer was converted from Zip to a custom installer at some point. Here's the response I got from "Dave" at Ipswitch:
--------------------
Hi Tim,

I am working with R&D here to see if I can get you the files you would
need to do this.

It is not possible with the current purchased distribution.

Dave
--------------------

Nothing since. We resorted to having our users install our custom skin after installing the client with the stock installer.

-- Tim
RE: Can't Create a Branded Client Install

Oh so true. You definitely cannot assume expertise or knowledge in anything when in comes to unknown software users! :- ) I have NOT asked tech support directly. This is the first time I've even been on the site. I thought I would try the forum first. I had downloaded the latest WinZip and WinZIp Self Extractor but still no no avail! We're a paid user of the 2.x IM Client and I am the designated Admin. Where do you suggest I go from here? While I await your response I'll look around on the site and see if I can't contact tech support directly. Thanks again. - Michael Meriwether

RE: Can't Create a Branded Client Install

One thing I've learned in that time is that you can never, ever assume expertise in anybody.

I've seen the published steps work and never heard of them not working, but I'm not a source of wisdom in Winzip at all. Someone else may weigh in, but meanwhile have you asked Tech Support directly?

mb

RE: Can't Create a Branded Client Install

Thanks for you reply. Not to sound rude, but after having done technical support for over 6 years I have come to learn the difference between a single-click and a double-click. I come across technical documentation all the time that is wrong and/or inaccurate and it is very frustrating especially when you follow the directions exactly and the procedure still does not work. WinZip WILL NOT open the IMClient.exe - or at least not the one I have. It throws an error that says it cannot open an InstallShiled file and to double-click it to install it - which is not what I want to do. DO you have any other info or recommendations? Thanks in advance. If so, be sure that you are right-clicking it and choosing Winzip from that shortcut menu, to extract its contents to an empty folder. After replacing the default skin files with your own, Then use Winzip to create a new self-extracting imclient.exe from all the files in that folder.

mb

Can't Create a Branded Client Install

Hi. I am trying to create a branded client install using the directions from the document titled "Creating a Skin for IP Switch Instant Messaging Client". On the last page the document says to use the WinZip Self Extractor which I tried. This does NOT work as WinZip does not recognize the file. It says that it is an InstallShield File. How do we open the IMClient.exe without running the install??? Please help! Thanks in advance! :-) Michael Meriwether
