CDOSYS is fully capable of authenticating to, and sending through, IMail. It does not require MS SMTP.

--Sandy

RE: iMail, SMTP, CDONTS ----HELP

Since CDOSYS is the replacement for CDONT the sense of topic remain the same

RE: iMail, SMTP, CDONTS ----HELP

Sorry for the mistype, it is actually CDOSYS....I just got my CDO's mixed.

RE: iMail, SMTP, CDONTS ----HELP

Instead of following the KB article to change the MS SMTP port, you could also have the developer use CDOSYS (the preferred method--CDONTS is no longer supported by MS) to send _directly_ through IMail, which is a much more efficient use of resources. If you use CDONTS, you are maintaining a separate spool, log structure, and application.

--Sandy

RE: iMail, SMTP, CDONTS ----HELP

http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19990809-DM01.htm

iMail, SMTP, CDONTS ----HELP

We have a server that is running iMail along with IIS 6. Under IIS we have a .NET application that has a piece to send out emails. However, .NET supplies components that wrap CDONTS which uses the Windows SMTP services to deliver mail. My system admin states that to run iMail on the server, he must turn the Windows SMTP service off. Doing this in turn causes the application to fail because, as stated, it uses CDONTS which uses the SMTP Service. If the Windows SMTP services are on, iMail can't send out mail. So it's either one or the other.

I'm told that the SMTP service conflicts with the iMail service thus both can't run.

Anyone have any ideas around this? Is there a way to run both the iMail and Windows SMTP together. Are we missing something very simple here?
