Can someone that has experience with a Barracuda and Imail let me know if my plan is somewhat correct and if the installation is as easy as everyone says?

1. Update DNS for domain.com to include 2 MX records mail.domain.com(imail), and mail2.domain.com(Barracuda).

Is this possible/or a good idea, receive using the barracuda and send using the imail server?

2. Configure the Barracuda to forward email to the Imail server
3. Enable SMTP AUTH only connections on Imail server on alternate port 587 for external users
4. Disable incoming connections on ‘mail.domain.com 25’ (Imail server) in the firewall
5. Enable incoming connections on ‘mail2.domain.com 25’ (Barracuda) in the firewall

Does anyone see any potential problems/issues with this setup?

Since all external users will be connecting via port 587, there is no reason to leave incoming port 25 connections for mail.domain.com (imail) open on the firewall right?

Is there anything you can recommend I watch out for or change in the Imail configuration when installing the Barracuda?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice. :D

Move users folder to a new drive

So I finally got my server moved and stable and I've run into an issue. It seems that the key in the registry that I thought would redirect the users folder from its default location on C: to the path I specified in the key (D:\iMail\users). However, it seems that the Top Directory key overrides this key and didn't pick up the old mailboxes I moved from the old server. I've already got spool moved. Is it possible to redirect just the users folder? The C: drive on the server I moved iMail to is short on space (this server was already made that way for another application that runs on it, not by my choice) so the mailboxes will soon overwhelm the free space left. The D: drive has plenty of space so I want to put it there. I'd rather not move everything under the iMail directory to do so, but I will if I have to. Is it possible?

Imail 8.21 Script error when using web admin tool

I have been having a problem when administering my 8.21 imail server over the web. Some users do not interface with their accounts frequently enough to manually clean out the mail (mostly junk) that piles up, which makes email account unusable in a short period of time. There must be some utility within iMail that facilitates this need. As an admin, I do not have the time to do this manually for every domain/user on the server. Again everything installed properly and It is actually working quite well.

With that being said, I do have several complaints.

Imail Installer once again messed with my folder security settings and I had to go in and fix it after in order to make it fully secured.

Note to Ipswitch: Please add an option to the installer to leave my security settings alone, I waste an hour fixing security settings after your installer goes in and messes with things.

Ok, my second grief with Imail 10.x is the web-mail does not update properly after deleting several emails. For instance when you Ctrl+Click and select several message to delete then hit delete it will delete them all but sometimes it still shows some of these emails in the box after rebuilding the page, so you have to refresh the page in order to get them to disappear.(very annoying) Perhaps it's reloading the page before it's done deleting the emails. Is there a quick fix for this?

Third grief is the "lite" web-mail interface and the only reason I upgraded. I've had clients unhappy with the speed of Imail since the "upgrade" from the old CGI version(it was super fast). So when I saw "lite" I was thinking great they finally fixed the speed and yes I do admit it's a bit faster. However, it is so lacking in features and ease of use that it's basically worthless, that seems harsh but it's the truth. My suggestion is for Ipswitch to bring back an interface like the old CGI interface but keep with the ability to run on port 80 like the current versions.

Now for the good parts:

In general it is faster and uses a bit less resources on the server cluster than the 9.x versions.

The new function to make sure users are using secure passwords I hope will save me hours of tracking down compromised accounts but how do I configure this? or is this a pre-configured thing thats part of a dll build?

I like the option to use UTF-8 in the user pref for better multilingual support. Great addition.

oh, and the new calendar looks great but it should really run in the same window or at least an option to do so for simplicity. My users hate new windows.

The Contacts area is better but still lacks an import/export feature.

I think thats about it, if you are looking to upgrade I would say go for it as soon as they fix the delete refresh issue which should be a quick and simple fix I would think.

How Do I Clean out a Mail Box

HI, I am running a 8.x iMail server. A very important email account is orverwhelemed with spam and at this point hard to navigate (300 + megs of mail). I would like to clean it out completely by physically logging into tthe server, navigateing to the imail folder/domain/user account, and deleting all the mail. Can anyone please give me a heads up on this? I have attempted to use a mail client (MS outlook) to download and delete the mail, but several attempts have taken as many days, and at the end of each attempt, it starts over again.

So the only solution is to clean it out from the server.

Thanks in advance

Mail from Hotmail blocked by Premium Filtering

Hello,

All the emails coming from hotmail are blocked by the Premium Antispam Filter (even legitimate mails) . Now, it cannot work unless the email is fully qualified in the login field. Also, in Firefox (works fine on IE), if you enter the whole email address, tab over to the password field, enter the password and hit 'enter' - the process fails with: Invalid Username/Password. The user needs to manually click on the "Login" button. Actually, examining it now, it seems like in firefox, although the password may be remembered on the page and you see the asterisks representing the hidden password, the default focus is on the Username field; if you tab from this to the password field the password asterisks disappear, but if you enter the password while the focus is on the password field and hit enter, login works w/o having to click on the login button. it would appear that saving the password on the page in firefox actually does NOT save it - I guess I can live with that.

But is it possible to have it set such that the Username field need only be the prefix of a user's email account rather than the whole?

imail list erver help requests are rejected

Whenever anyone sends an email to request help about a list, their request is rejected with the following message:

The Help Message for (listname) is for subscribers only!

The initial help request is from someone subscribed to the list. We just migrated all of our user folders from our old server (running the same version of Imail and same OS) but now we're having problems with a few clients being able to open their mailboxes through webmail. The accounts in question each have about 1 to 2 GBs worth of MBX files. When we connect to their mailbox using IMAP4 (through Outlook) for the first time it takes only a few moments for it to populate, however when we log in through the webmail we get the two loading spinners (tree & message), and after several minutes we get a javascript error ("Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object"). I doubt the problem is with the hardware configuration since the machine is much faster than our old server, and we're barely pushing any CPU or IO on the machine. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

David

IMail Server and Nortel CallPilot

Has anyone tried to integrate Nortel CallPilot with IMail? I have been looking at greylisting and it seems to a simple and very effective way to cut down spam. Has anyone had any success in implementing this in an IMail environment?

I guess it would take another smtp server with the greylisting and then forward all good emails to the imail, right? The only issue I have with that is the outgoing mail. If it's the IMail box that delivers directly there would need to be an MX record of that IP address, thus allowing incoming mail messages to be delivered directly to the IMail server, being as it is the secondary MX. Unless the Imail server forwards everything through the same smtp server handling incoming connections??

Looking for some real world feedback.

Block spam with fake FROM from my domain

Using the basic IMail antispam settings, is there a way to block emails whose FROM header is set to a fake user on my domain? For example, my domain is mydomain.com. I've added mydomain.com to the White List to keep vaild user's mail from being blocked internally within the company. If a spam message comes in with the FROM header set to xvfdger@mydomain.com, it is allowed through even though it's spam and would otherwise be caught by the other antispam settings.

The White List trumps all the other spam settings, correct? IF the e-mail is destined for our insurance company, the Tumbleweed server will send it via TLS. If it is destined for any other domain, it goes normal. IMail server does not go directly to the internet.

Incoming - MX record points to 3rd party SPAM and Virus detection. After cleaning, mail is sent to Tumbleweed server. If from insurance company, mail is unencrypted by Tumbleweed and sent to IMail server. If from any other host, it is sent directly to IMail server.

We are changing our mail to go through Postini. This means that a TLS connection needs to be set up between IMail server and Postini (we are doing away with the Tumbleweed server). Outgoing mail will travel to Postini and then sent to final domain. If to insurance company, it will be sent from Postini via TLS. All mail from IMail to Postini will be TLS.

Incoming - MX record will point to Postini. Postini will do SPAM and Virus checks, then send to IMail server directly via IP address.

Incoming from insurance company will go directly to IMail Server via IP address.

Looks easy on paper.

Followed Ipswitch instructions on creating SSL Certificate and installed certificate as per instructions.

Went to IMail admin and checked box for TLS in SMTP properties. Stopped/started SMTP and Que Manager.

Had insurance company send test message to IMail server (required TLS from their end). They received error - unable to establish TLS connection.

No firewall issues, as same type of traffic was flowing in with no problem to Tumbleweed server.

Contacted Ipswitch Tech Support. I asked if certificate had to be installed/activated anywhere for TLS. He said no.

The problem is that TLS is not working. What step have I left out on this? Does SSL have to be checked? I created a certificate. I installed it via their instructions but how does it relate to the TLS?

Nothing against the support dude, but I don't believe he was quite understanding where I was coming from and/or did not understand the concept of TLS between servers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Antispam-table.txt Help needed

Looking for additional help on the number with in the antispam-table.

Example: specializing,10264,391,4022

I know the last two numbers are number of times a message was good and the number of times the message was spam, but what is the first set of numbers.

I have several new words I would like to add, but don't know what this number represents.

Thanks in advance

Emailing appointments

Is it possible to email web calender appointments to other Imail users and to Outlook users?
