Hi,

We;re using Imal v7.0.0 . We have decide to use other SMTP server to handle email out from Imail. Let say for an example, I install Exchange Server and I want Imail to use Exchange SMTP Server. Can I do that ? I need this because Imail could not forward unresolved recipient to other mail server. Please help

Yes -- in the SMTP settings, there is a "gateway" option that you can use to do this.

Thanks for reply,

what if the user email is in the exchange server ? I mean if the user is not exist in Imail, can Imail forward the smtp message to Exchange ? or, can I make Imail send all internal messages out to Interscan Filter and then Interscan will forward it to Exchange. In this way, Exchange will determine if the user exist in the directory, the messages will be save in exchange and deliver to the recipient, if user is not exist, it can forward the smtp messages to the Imail. Thanks

What you're talking about is two-way peering between two different vendors' MTAs.  That's a very tall order, but you're lucky in that, yes, you can make it work with these two particular vendors.

On the IMail side, you can use peering (see KB and archives) to send all mail for locally unknown users at locally known domains to a specific mail server for auxiliary delivery; another tack is to use our exchange2aliases script (see my sig) to automatically create IMail _aliases_ for all Exchange users.  On Exchange, you can use recipient policies to send the same type of mail on to IMail for a second attempt; another method, similar to exchange2aliases, is to script the automatic creation of Exchange _mail-enabled contacts_ for all IMail users.

None of this is particularly easy for a new mail admin, and you have to realize that you're deploying a setup that's pretty far outside of pure SMTP.  There's a heckuva lot more info on peering and other topics in the mailing list archives at http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ than in this fledging forum.  Suggest you look around there for a while.
