When I attempt to connect to the server - the dialog states that it's "connecting to IP," then after a few seconds states "connection failed 'myhostname.com' - connection timed out."

I'm relatively inexperienced with ftp - I've spent a lot of time with a live support center where my information is hosted, and they can access my information, but I have yet to get in.

Thanks in advance,

Courtney

If the only error you are receiving is connection failed 'myhostname.com', this usually points to the firewall.
Disable your Windows firewall or any other firewall software on the machine and attempt to connect using WS_FTP.

I download the trial and it closes connection also. I have Vista and I already disabled my firewall.
Any sugestions? I don't want to purchase it until I know it will work.

Have you tried connecting to your host using command line? If not, open a dos window and at the DOS prompt simply type the following:

ftp "myhostname.com" and press enter, you should receive a 220 response from the server requesting a login id.

Do you get this response back from the server?
