Im having some problems following the command lines to migrate to full SQL 2005 from express. As the instructions stated, i installed WUG first then i installed FULL SQL 2005 to the same server.  It has seemed to move the database over into the SQL console, however it still shows as a SQL express database.   So following the instructions here, im trying to create the database as follows:

sqlcmd -E -S "<SQL server name>" -Q "CREATE DATABASE WhatsUp"

When i put that in the command line i get the following:

HResult 0x2, Level 16, State 1 Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  WHen connectiong to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections..  SQLCMD: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client: Login timeout expired.

Please keep in mind that i have minimal experience with SQL so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Ok, nevermind figured it out....

If you install full SQL 2005 on the same server no need for any of those scripts.  When you install it moves the 2005 Express edition instance into its perview (dont know what else to call it) assuming you install WhatsUp FIRST and you are running SQL from the same machine.

Then you simply upgrade the instance by doing the following script.

SQLsourcefile directory\Servers> start /wait setup.exe INSTANCENAME=WHATSUP UPGRADE=SQL_Engine SKUUPGRADE=1 /qb

(if you have a policy for password complexity, please remove from domain before doing this as the upgrade will error out)

Don, are you looking to move from a SQL 2000 box to a SQL 2005 box, or upgrade SQL from 2000 to 2005 on the box you're currently using?

If the latter, it's an upgrade using the processes and procedures that Microsoft suggests.

If it's the former, you'll need to backup the database on the 2000 box and restore it on the 2005 one.

I also checked into your mail, and a reply was sent about 3 hours after the mail came in to us on 11/7. Not sure why you didn't receive it--can you check spam folders? I'm having Tech Support resend the mail for good measure, too. If you don't find it, let me know and I'll dig a little deeper into our mail logs to see what's going on.
