| Ok, so WC does all the hard work for you and finds all the bits and pieces and ties them together correctly...
... but it chooses the wrong icons.
On WC I had Swicthes and IP-Phones correctly identified. When I export to Whatsup, I get "HP Device" for the switch, and a workstation for a phone....
However, when I export to Visio, it is perfect. |

| | When WC exports to WUG it utilizes the define Device Types of WUG. What this allows is that you may have custom defined mappings of OIDs to Device Types that WC may not. So, we try to incorporate those. However, when you use the base WUG definitions; there are some "gaps" in the default mappings. For example, WC may discover a HP Procurve; but the best match for device type in WUG is HP Device (because of the general .11 OID). Same thing for the IP-Phone. If you define a "better" mapping of OID to ICON in WUG; WC will utilize those when it exports. -Brian WhatsConnected Product Team |

| | I just downloaded WC and have not installed it yet, so forgive me if this is an obvious question. If WUG already knows about the device, will it use the device type / icon which has been previously assigned? Thanks, in advance! |

| | When WC exports the discovery/topology results to WUG; it WILL use (or lookup) the device type that is already assigned to the device within WUG. (NOTE: Devices are typically matched based on IP address.) That being said, the device types that are used within WC are independent from those used in WUG; meaning if you define a device type in WUG it will NOT be imported to device types within WC.
