| Hi,
Whenever I open FTP Pro I get a dialogue box that says "change folder error" followed by "WS_FTP could not change to the specified folder. Ensure that you have not mistyped the folder name and that you have permissions to access this folder."
It will then only allow me to exit the program by doing a CTRL, ALT and DEL. Clicking the "close" or "x" only have no effect. I cannot do anything at all with the program whilst it is in this state. It says it is looking for a folder on my desktop called "outboard", which is there. Any ideas on how this can be rectified?
It has worked in the past and has only recently acquired this problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail, I have also tried deleting files that may cause the problem, but still to no avail. Any ideas? It is driving me mad now, I have so much work to catch up on!!
Thanks Stephen |

| I get the same problem.
Looks like it's because I removed a directory on the local hard drive that ws_ftp pro was using when last running. Since we had the remember last settings checked, it looks for that directory and can't find it. This is all fine and good but at least the program should reset it's self to default (or something) instead of locking when I press the cancel button.
I'm about 10 seconds form uninstalling the product and finding a new ftp program.

| OK - I found the problem.
ws_ftp stores the late used directory in the registry
On my machine it was here: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1229272821-1078081533-725345543-500\Software\Ipswitch\WS_FTP\LastState\LeftPane\0
"ConnectString" was set to a path that no longer existed on my machine. I reset this value to "c:\" and restarted ws_ftp pro and everything worked fine.
As always - use caution when editing the registry |
