This is my first time adding a Custom Performance Monitor in WUG... I am creating a monitor to alert me when power consumption of my 3750 Cisco switches reaches over 85%.

I created the monitor with an SNMP MIB. I found the MIB associated with this is cefcFRUDrawnInlineCurrent [1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.117.1.1.4.1.4]. Note, I added it with the OID instead of picking it from the list, since it was not listed in WUG.

Now how do I make WUG alarm when the value associated with this MIB exceeds 85%?

Thanks.

You'll need to create a custom Active Monitor of type SNMP. It will allow you to put the OID in and then define if the value should alarm if above under or equal. I would do a range with the low number set to zero and the high number set to what you dont want to excede.

Hope this helps.

David.. Thanks for the info. I was able to add the 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.117.1.1.4.1.4 MIB as an Active Monitor. However, no matter what I set the value to, it still alarms as Down Active Monitor. For example, if I set the value to a single Constant of 240 it will still alarm, even though the Watts Used on the switch is 239.4. If I set the value to a range, 314 - 370, it will still alarm. (We are trying to have it alert only when the switch is using over 85% of its power ~ 314 Watts).

What am I doing wrong?

I don't have the same switches so I can't test that OID. Did you use the test function in the active monitor library? That will display exactly what the poll returns and then you can make adjustments accordingly. When using a range of values the monitor is considered UP if the result is within that range. So if you want to alarm if the value goes over 300 for example, set the range as zero for the low and 300 for the high. But again, the best way to troubleshoot is to use the test function.

David,

Thanks again for the input. However, I can't get WUG to show this monitor UP no matter what values I put in.. One constant [Exact power used value on the switch], or a range such as between 0 - 314. The exact power value associated with this MIB.. on the switch in question is 239.4 Watts:

Switch#sh power inline

Module   Available     Used     Remaining
          (Watts)     (Watts)    (Watts)
------   ---------   --------   ---------
1           370.0      239.4       130.6
2             n/a        n/a         n/a
3             n/a        n/a         n/a
4           370.0      113.4       256.6

Also, there is no TEST button in the version of WUG [V.11] I'm using...

When you created the monitor did you put the OID in directly or did you browse the MIB to find it?  It seems like the monitor is not able to poll that OID for some reason. You do want to use a range for the monitor, not a constant value. Also, the range indicates that the monitor is up when the polled value is within the range. What version of WUG are you running? If 11 make sure you have the 11.03 patch applied. Also, if you have a maintenance contract the upgrade to version 12 should be available to you. Look into that, you might want to upgrade as its SNMP tools have been greatly improved over v11.

Also, when I click on the Down event on the switch, it shows the following error message in WUG...

Response packet contained the error: No Such Name

Not sure why I'm getting this error message.

I'm sure the OID is correct. I referenced it directly from Cisco. I didn't Browse the MIB within WUG. There aren't that many MIBs within WUG to browse to.

Not sure what the problem is. I can't find a way to show this monitor UP.

Okay, that message indicates that WUG cannot read that OID. If you haven't yet, you will need to copy the Cisco MIBs into the MIBs directory on your server, restart the nmservice and try to poll it again.
