| | Hello, Today my IMail server 8.22 has exploded. Basically, tens of thousands of e-mails are left in the spool directory and the queue service gets bogged down and cannot deliver them. Most seem to come from Brazil and the "From" address in the .SMD files is from my domain (projectphoenix.com), only all with fictitious account names @ my domain. Has my server been compromised? Who in Braizl can I fire a missle at? :o) Please help. I don't know where to begin to troubleshoot a solution, and Ipswitch is forcing me to pay $1,000 for support, which is extremely unfair. Thanks, Scott |

| Have you tried enabling the antispam feature? Hopefully that will filter out more of the spams.
Another thing is to check to make sure your mail server is not an open relay. That authentication is required to send out emails. |

| | I went through similar problems with IMail at various points. The end result from Tech Support was that you need to have a gateway device in front of your mail server to protect it from this type of crap. You can put a true spam filter gateway in front of it (which is what we did) or you can configure a second box with IMail on it that runs the spam filters and then passes the good stuff on to the mail server. You have to keep the threads within normal levels for IMail to function properly so you need to protect the box. Our SMTP and Queue Manager services still fail all the time causing orphans in the spool but the machine never blows up any more. |
