| | Fired up V12 on a test box this morning... Here are my first impressions. PLUS SIDE : > Everything seems WAY faster. My test box is roughly 3 times less powerful than my prod box, but launching the main console is very fast, and the web console also looks far more responsive than in v11. > VERY NICE TO HAVE : At least decent snmp tools, with the snmp walker & explorer ! I especially love the feedback about the compilation status of a mib. > SSG graphs seem to be cool, but it should be possible to turn them on only when wanted. The way I see it, they probably query frequently the device (like, every 5 seconds) while they are displayed, which can be unwanted while you're just looking at the main graph. > SMS Direct notifications are cool (thanks Steve) and they even work with my siemens mc-35 box. No more playing with scripts !! DOWN SIDE : > Very basic and long-awaited functionality still left behind : intra-device dependencies (now, I won't explain again ). > Web alarms still not reverted to the 2006 approach -or at least, because I think that some people preferred the 2006 way and others prefer the wug v11 way, it would be nice to have the choice between both. ??? UNKNOWN : > Web alarms don't play sound on my browser... > Text-to-speech work when testing interactively, but not real alarms. These two things may be because of my test platform, although sounds & tts work with other apps.
Reading, writing and arithmetic - If you need to choose, please take option 1. |

| Well I have to say, I will finally be moving to a new version of WhatsUp Gold with this release. We skipped v11 because the maps where cluttered with the link names we had in. v12 fixes this problem which is great.
I will say that we use this product primarily for fault management and would like to see the focus remain here. The SSGs are nice, but not sure if we would ever use them.
Intradevice dependancies are still lacking which is something people have been asking for for 3 years now.
Another thing I have been missing is a better maintenance scheduling engine. We would like to be able to schedule maintenance windows based on date. Since we get a lot of maintenance notices from our service providers and internal customers, it would be nice to just transfer these into WhatsUp. Currently we have to put them in the same week and the pull them back out.
Finally, it would be nice to base user security on LDAP groups.
Overall, I think the product looks good and want to stay positive. I am happy to test and give feedback on the new functionality as it is currently implemented. |

| | It ran like an absolute rocket for 30 minutes After shut down and restart displayed "Version mismatch" and that was the end of it - for now. (see other posting) looks like you are on the right track with V12

| | Did you ever fix this sound issue with Web Alarms in v12? I am having an issue after an upgrade from 2006 where the Web Alarms won't play the sound in my browser. |
