Uploaded a zero size file, and discovered that you cannot do so.

I also uploaded a file that already existed, without selecting the overwrite box. The browser hung for quite some time, as if the server was uploading the entire file and then doing a compare. Not sure if there is a way to do a MD5 hash of the file prior to uploading it.

Hello Cycler,

Thanks for the post.

Yes, 0 byte files are not allowed.  Is this something you want or need to do or were you just testing the system?  If you do need to, can you share the business case?

bye for now,

We definitely need that functionality - we contracturally require clients to send a file daily and they send 0 byte files if they have no data to send.

jazulu and cycler,

thanks for the feedback.

okay, i'm checking into the requirements and effort to get this prioritized. WS_FTP Server does support 0 byte files, it's just the web client, that currently does not allow 0 byte files (as the web client does not have a way to check/access the local file system to see if it's a valid 0 byte file or just an invalid 0 byte name).

Do you know if you would use the web client to transfer 0 byte files or would that more likely be be done using a batch file or chron job (which would be supported by WS_FTP Server)?

also, any other comments on the web transfer module?  by the way, any preference for a name for the web application?

WS_FTP Server Web Transfer Module
WS_FTP Server HTTPS Module
WS_FTP Server Web Client
other?

bye for now,

As long as the server can handle 0 byte files we would be OK in our situation.

I like the WS_FTP Server Web Client moniker

Hello JAZULU,

Okay, we have reviewed your proposal and now allow 0 byte files via the HTTP/S interface.  As noted earlier, WS_FTP Server already supports 0 byte files (for "traditional clients - e.g. WS_FTP Professional, command line, etc.) and now HTTP/S supports it as well.

Also, on the name - thanks on the feedback. We settled on WS_FTP Server Web Transfer Client.

bye for now,
