| Great work gang. INSTALLATION: I downloaded the evaluation version of WSTFP PRO 2007.1 today, and it installed just fine on my elderly windows 2000 machine, AND RETAINED all my WSFTP PRO 2007.0 website settings, that Ive noticed so far, Im relieved to say. PERL: I bought WSFTP PRO 2007.0 (almost a year ago?) because I felt that SFTP mode was no longer an option in this century. Today, with your updated 2007.1 version I can finally run my perl scripts after uploading them. PARTIAL DISCONNECT: I dont mean to be a whiner but you did ask for feedback: If I start a download after a sftp connection has been open for some time there is a great delay if I wait. However, if I stop the download and restart it, it starts almost immediately the second time. This was an issue with the 2007.0 version also. EVALUATION EXPIREY: I admit it was kind of disconcerting to get a "evaluation copy" screen when the 2007.1 version loads each time, even tho I had a licenced copy of the 2007.0 version. Im hoping if the evaluation ends soon, that I wont loose all my former investment and settings. This was an act of faith. I'll keep my ear to the ground, but its been worth it thus far for me. INADVERTENT WINDOW VEIWS: Another problem Ive been having is accidentally changing my gui view. I wish it was lockable. Thanks. No spamm please, nor any other automatic multiple mailing. PS: How do I update my profile on this forum? |

| | For me, this is an upgrade from 2007.0.0.2. I received the notice in email (today) that I could upgrade by following the link in the email. The link was confusing as it stated "As a current WS_FTP Professional customer, you have the opportunity to receive this update by purchasing an Ipswitch Service Agreement for 1-year." Since my license is less than year old, I was naturally concerned that in order to qualify for my 1 year allowance to upgrade, it appeared it would cost me! I found that by going to the site and entering my serial number, I qualified for the free upgrade - confusing. Following the prompts after providing my Serial Number led straight to an easy and quick download. From there on, it was easy to follow. Installation was a breeze - no glitches, not even after halting a moment to review the improvements. All settings remained intact including logs, user settings and addresses. Problem (walk-thru): In Manage Backup Jobs: Losing Backup Task/Jobs - Summary: Error in passwords can cause lose of stored backup task:
- Open "Manage Backup Jobs" (MBJ) (opens Backup Manager window)
- In MBJ window, click "Add" (opens Backup Wizard window)
- In MBJ Backup Wizard window, select a test folder to back up. (*1 can't select File(s) only) Next, select folder in which to place/backup selected folder (in this test, Click "Local" tab at the top and choose a Local folder - this is not a sticky). Next, put a Check in the Zip files.... box. Click "Next" (opens Backup Schedule window - (BS))
- In the BS window, keep default frequency at Daily. Set start time to 20 minutes later than actual time on System Tray (gives us time to finish test). Leave "Every Day" radio checked. Check "Next" which opens the Backup Login window.
- Leave the Username window Backup login provides. *2 Provide your password and confirm it. Click "Next" and the MBJ window is displayed with a list of scheduled backup jobs. Close the window now.
- Re-open MBJ window from WSFTP-Pro or wait until the scheduled task is complete then Open the MBJ again. The MBJ window opens.
- In the MBJ window, either dbl-left-click on the test "Task name" item we created or highlight it and click Change. Either way, the Backup Wizard backup Locations window will open with the Task name project Folder and location displayed. Click "Next" to move to the Backup Schedule window, click "Next" to move to the Backup Login window. leave "Username" as it is.
- Enter your password -
- In the Password Confirmation text box, put your password again, but this time, change one character (or more).
- Click "Next". You should get a popup informing you that the passwords don't match - to try again. Close the popup
- This time, replace Password with something else and in the Password Confirmation, retype the new password.
- Click "Finish" and a popup appears stating:
- Failed to create a new backup job - Login failure: unknown user name or password. (or see image below)
- Close the popup and the Task name has not been changed, or left intact, it has been *3 removed!
*1 The Backup Locations window states "Click the Browse button to choose the Files ....." when only Folders can be selected in it's Local Browse windows. *2 Not sure how I feel about entering user ID and passwords at this stage to log on to and backup Local folders. *3 I don't think this should happen. The job should not be removed during a change when the passwords are unsuccessful. I suggest that in this event, the Task Name (Job) remain and that the popup still explain the problem, but with the additional notice that no changes were made by WSFTP and if changes are indeed needed, the user retry the Change option using the correct passwords. The way it is, anyone can remove Tasks/Jobs without a password! Tested on the following system: OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium Version 6.0.6000 Build 6000 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Manufacturer HP-Pavilion System Type X86-based PC Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+, 2400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s) BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.04, 15/12/2006 SMBIOS Version 2.4 Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.0.6000.16386" Total Physical Memory 2,045.94 MB Available Physical Memory 828.51 MB Total Virtual Memory 4.21 GB Available Virtual Memory 2.92 GB Page File Space 2.29 GB Page File C:\pagefile.sys

| | Ouch! Quick loss of Transfer History can hurt. Suggestion: Create an Undo option in Context or Edit menus. Problem: Mistaken click can result in loss of all Transfer History data. Even though this data is recorded in C:\Users\userID\AppData\Roaming\Ipswitch\WS_FTP\Logs (Vista), *reviewing outside of WS-FTP Pro is an arduous task. Procedure: (Caution - following this procedure may remove your recorded Information from the display.) - With Information Window open, click on Transfer History tab
- In Transfer History pane, right-click on any area in Transfer History pane and the Context menu opens.
- In Context menu, Left-click on Clear All, or Delete.
- Data is removed.
- Right-click = no Undo option.
- Edit = No Undo option.
Additionally: *If Transfer History is set to Log (Tools > Options > Logging and "Enable Transfer Logging" is checked) then: - Log file for Transfer History grows and can become quite large.
- Transfer History Cleared or Deleted will not remove the cleared/deleted items from the Log.
Suggestion: - Add an option that when clearing items from Transfer, an option to remove the same from the Log.
- An Option to control Logs, by file-size, date period (number of days to keep) or
- Consider an archiving Option.

IkoIko, ..... are you using WS_FTP Professional and if so, how is it going? bye for now, Hi Kevin, Yes - I'm using WS-FTP Pro V 2007.1 - 2007.11.12 It is going just great. I love the backup feature. I run daily Cron jobs on hosts that bundles up just the files I want, then I let WS-FTP-P pick up the bundles and sync them to mem sticks. It's application possibilities are endless. I probably spend 2 to 3 hours a day transferring files on WANs, the reverse and computer to computer on a LAN. WS-FTP-P makes it easy, slick and fast. The GUI is user friendly, and easy to navigate. I tried the rest, then got the best and the price can't be beat. I look forward to the the tasks because WS-FTP Pro makes it easy, interesting and I know I can trust WS-FTP P to do the job the way I set it out. On servers I use, I often see people complaining about lost packets, dropped carriers, and time-outs and the first thing I notice is, they should have been using WS-FTP-P. I don't have those problems - with WS-FTP the transfers are seemless, errorless, faster and more reliable than any other FTP program I've used before. I |
