Hi there,

we just upgraded to latest Symantec Scan Engine Version. Everything seems to work fine but it's not possible to load the administrator interface. The Applet seems to hang? We are using the recommended Java 5 VM packed in the installation bundle. On other clients with Java 6 VM the administrator interface says: "To view Symantec Scan Engine administrator interface, please install Java Runtime Enviornment(JRE) 5.0 Update 6 or later."

... any clues?

Thanks,
Jaspal

We have the same issue.  Starting/stopping the Symantec Scan Engine while loading seems to help... However,. .it hangs a few moments later.. I installed Firefox but it has the same issue.

Just called IPSwitch and i hang up the phone after waiting for > 20 minutes. I asked them to call me back, so... waiting now...

I let you know.

Oke, i got the answer: After 2 sleepless night and 2,5 hours calling with IpSwitch (which didn't had a solution), i came to the following;

First of all: The Java 1.5 Update 6 is OLD, it's a problem in the first place, however, don't upgrade it because then you won't be able to login the Scan Engine anymore at all ! (i tested it!) It is even better to disable any automatic updates for Java (Control Panel -> Java -> ... ).

Second: Because the software is kind of old, it's quite sensitive.

-> MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR NON-UNICODE LANGUAGE AT ENGLISH (US) AND APPLY IT TO T'HE CURRENT PROFILE AND THE DEFAULT PROFILE' -<

Go to the Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> (tab) Advanced -> Set the Language for non-Unicode programs to "English (United States)" and select the "Apply all settings to the current user account and to the default user profile".  Then reboot the computer.  Remove all the Java cache (from the Control Panel -> Java -> ... ).   Now it works !
