So - i've just started messing around with Whatsup - one of our external clients is saying that they saw one of our websites go down through whatsup gold - now the only problem with this is that our external ip for the website is not pingable - so were wondering how they've used whatsup gold? is there some way of checking websites on whatsup which isnt ping? ....

Oh yes, there is more than Ping!

First there is the simple HTTP monitor: Connects to a site and looks for any response. If response is returned and contains html, WUG says it is up. If not (times out or nothing returned) then down.

Second, you can take the HTTP monitor and copy/modify it to ask for a specific page and look for specific contents on that page, making an HTTP Content monitor.

Are you using an old version of WUG (v8 or earlier)? Then you are in the right forum, but not a lot of traffic here... If you are using 2005/2006/V11, you may find more action and more up to date information in that forum...

Then there are Windows Service monitors (is IIS running?, restart it if not) and in WUG Premium one can use WMI to check if a process is running.

And, of course, SNMP... a whole world of possible things to monitor on routers, switches and anything that talks SNMP (Disk, CPU, Memory, Bandwidth, stuff like that).

WUG also has Passive monitors (SNMP Traps, Windows Event log, Syslog)...

Oh, the Knowledgebase has helpful articles if you need some help in setting something up...
