I have tried to install the whats up premium package. I did all of the prerequisites for the MSDE Install and is still says it can not install refer to the release notes.

Is there an known issue here.

I tried to install it after I loaded MSDE as well and still got the same message.

Have you tried installing "Remote Site Edition"?

What version of Windows are you experiencing this issue on?

When you installed MSDE separately, did you check the log file to see why the installation failed? If you have the log file can you attach it to your reply?

I am having the same problem here, installing remote site on a Windows 2003 R2 x64.

ERROR: General error encountered (MSDE-2000 Component) (Code: 0)

I didn't find logs for MSDE installation, how can I get it to install manually?

Right now, 64-bit editions of Windows Server 2003 are not supported. But you can try installing MSDE manually by first downloading it from:

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/previousversions/msde/download.mspx

Then run the MSDE2000A.EXE to extract all the files to a folder (e.g. C:\MSDE2000A).

Finally, start a command prompt (Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt), change the current directory to the one where files were extracted (cd C:\MSDE2000A) and run setup.exe with using the following command line:

setup SAPWD=wug_sa INSTANCENAME=WHATSUP TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" DATADIR="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\" /L*v "C:\MSDELog.log"

If MSDE still fails to install, then attach the installation log file (C:\MSDELog.log) and the SQL Engine log file (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$WHATSUP\LOG\ERRORLOG).
